I am just now dipping my toes into the ipcam pond. A bolt of lightning hit my house, damaging or destroying a great deal of low voltage equipment including an antiquated Geovision analog cam card and several of 16 cams. Rather than repair the crappie system I thought it was finally time to switch technologies and was fortunate to happen upon this site. Thus far, I've lurked enough to learn from a few wise souls including fenderman and nayr.
I'm grateful for what I've learned because my incipient system shocks me with its ability. So far I've gotten from eBay :
Optiplex 7020 $550 new but a little dented
Hikvision turret $75
2 Hikvision bullets $85 each
And Blue Iris from amazon.
Everything works perfectly almost to the point of plugnplay. I've been watching the system for the last week with no glitches from Georgia (the state). I'm looking forward to learning much more from you guys as I continue to fill out the system.
PS I think I'll be trying more turrets because spiders yeeesh
