I bought a new cameras from empire tech but I am having an issue getting it to display. The camera is in the right IP range and the lorex nvr sees it but I can't get a picture. I read many threads about a new cameras being on a different up range, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I think the password is screwy. I took a screen shot of my monitor. The most recent picture not shown displays the model number which is missing in the attached picture. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I don't know if this is it, but I think the newer firmware on the Dahua cameras require the camera to be initialized, during which the admin password is set. You can connect to the camera with a web browser to initialize it or use the Config Tool utility. I think Dahua NVRs can initialize them too, but I'm not sure if Lorex NVRs can. Once initialized, I think they're good to go.

Do you have a laptop you could plug into the back of the Lorex NVR and then try to http:// over to the IP address of the new camera and see if its web page comes up?

I am using a laptop with a USB to Ethernet adapter. I configured the adapter to be on the same ip range as the NVR. I tried every combination of user names, passwords, and port info I can think of.

I can ping my NVR from my laptop using wireless. I noticed today that the NVR is located at 10.0.0.3 but the cameras are in the range of 10.1.1.xxx I am unable to ping any of the cameras. Last night I put an old Lorex camera on the same port as the camera that I can not get initialized and that camera worked as expected. This tells me that the issue is definitely with the camera but I just can't access it using config tool or PSS. Can't connect using browser either.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Total newbie here but I have done a couple dahua cams recently with blue iris. As said above the cameras have to be initialized either by logging in to the camera directly through a web browser or through the dahua config tool.

I think the dahua should come with a factory set ip address of 192.168.1.108 that you need to change by logging into the camera directly. I think You would need to change the camera IP to match what your nvr has it as. You would need to change your ethernet adapter ip to the same range as the dahua to log in to it for the initial set up.

Most PoE NVRs create a separate (and isolated) network for the cameras that get plugged into the back of the NVR.

With that kind of setup, usually the only way to access cameras is to take a computer and physically connect it (via Ethernet) into one of the NVR's camera ports. If the laptop's ethernet adapter is set for DHCP, the NVR should give the laptop a 10.1.1.x IP address, although you should be able to manually assign the laptop a static IP address in that range. Once that's done, you should be able to ping and http:// into the cameras, assuming they support those features. Your 5231 and 2231 should support both.

FYI - iirc some of the lorex NVR + Dahua OEM camera setup was covered in an Lorex thread...

Basics:
1) IP for the camera needs to be configured to the appropriate subnet used by the NVR
2) Port number needs to be sync'ed between the camera and NVR
3) User / Password needs to be sync'ed
4) and, sometimes the channel needs to be sync'ed to see the view on the multi-camera screen display. ( normally setting the appropriate substream info on the NVR channel )

Hi Brian,

When you display ONLY the IPC-HDW5231 camera do you see a display?
When you display multiple cameras do you not see the IPC-HDW5231 display?

I believe it is a question of setting up the appropriate substream info into the NVR channel for the camera. Once you setup the substream info for the multiple camera stream display it should work.
( remember the 5231 has 3 streams available )

The camera that I can't connect is a HDW2231r-zs. I am closer now. I followed the steps from mat200 and o thought I intialized the camera. I went through menu to set up the camera but it did not work on the end. I am off tomorrow and will tackle this. I am not New to IP cameras but this one is throwing me for a loop. Thank you to everyone for your input.

Thank you everybody for your help. I was able to finally get the camera connected today.
I have another dahua camera that I am locked out of because I do not know the password. Are there any suggestions on how I can access that camera.
