Hello everyone,

Recently, the HDD in my DS-7116HGHI-F1/N DVR failed. I purchased a new Seagate SkyHawk ST4000VX016 HDD and installed it in the DVR. However, it shows a "Status Error," and although the capacity is displayed correctly, the available space is shown as 0 GB. The DVR is not recording. I have restarted the system several times and performed a factory reset and reinstallation, but the issue persists.

I also tried resetting using the “Set” button, but the problem remains unresolved. I connected the new HDD to my computer to check if it might be faulty, but it seems to be functioning properly. What could be the issue, and what should I do?
Thank you for your help!

Click the check box by the hard drive and click the format button to format the drive.

You have to let the NVR format the drive, they use a different file system.

When I click the 'Set' button, I see 'initializing' and a number increasing from 0 to 100. I wait for it to complete. When I use the 'Format' button, I confirm the prompt that appears, but I don't see any action like 'initializing'. I followed the steps shown in the video below, but the 'initializing' does not appear as it does when I press the 'Set' button or as shown in the video.

Additionally, when I restart the system, I sometimes encounter a message saying 'not all local HDDs are initialized'.

The HDD may not initialize/format when it's status is error.

Explore the HDD Detection tab on the top, Advanced Settings under storage, the event log, and other menus that may be relevant.

It looks like this model should support up to 6TB so that's not the issue. Not sure if it's unhappy with this hard drive, of if you just need to somehow clear the error / test the new drive to convince the NVR it's working.

There are other here who are better versed in Hikvision NVRs and likely other relevant YouTube videos

Hello everyone,

Recently, the HDD in my DS-7116HGHI-F1/N DVR failed. I purchased a new Seagate SkyHawk ST4000VX016 HDD and installed it in the DVR. However, it showed a "Status Error," and although the capacity was displayed correctly, the available space was shown as 0 GB. The DVR was not recording. I restarted the system several times and performed a factory reset and reinstallation, but the issue persisted. I also tried resetting using the "Set" button, but the problem remained unresolved. When I restarted the system, I sometimes encountered a message saying "not all local HDDs are initialized".

I followed the steps shown in the video below, but the 'initializing' message did not appear as it did when I pressed the 'Set' button or as shown in the video. When I used the 'Format' button, I confirmed the prompt that appeared, but the 'initializing' column remained empty.

After much troubleshooting, I discovered that the problem was not with the HDD, but with the power supply connected to the DVR. The DVR's power specifications are 12V 2A, and the power adapter I was using also indicated 12V 2A. Despite the DVR working with this setup for a long time, I decided to try a 12V 5A power supply as a last resort. This solved the problem, and both my new and old HDDs are now working correctly.

If anyone experiences a similar issue, I recommend checking the power supply as it might be the source of the problem.

Thank you to tangent who tried to help.

Glad you got it figured out.

Did you measure voltage when it was giving you the error or just decide to dry a different power adapter? Sounds like something was starting to fail in the power adapter and it was out of spec.
