I just changed my 2MP cam from dahua h264 to h265,
it's supposed to have less storage usage,
But after 2 hours recording, i don't see any usage changes, infact, it's slightly larger, (see the attachment).
I've checked the cams and both are runnnig 20fps.
All other settings are exact same. What am i missing here?

Are both clips the same exact length? If using VBR same amount of motion?
You can easily see the bitrate change in blue iris status when going for 264 to 5.

When you switch to H265, in theory you can drop the bitrate and that is how the savings is found. Some people have found a degradation and others haven't.

Are you running CBR or VBR?

I run cameras at both - some of my cameras it looks to me like 265 isn't as sharp as 264 and some I cannot tell a difference and run 265.

It's the same spot, the bottom one is the old h264 clip and the top one is the new h265 clip.

H265 :2h13m11s = 3.90 gb
H264 : 2h16m23s = 3.90 gb.

So in terms of space usage h624 is slightly smaller.

Just checked the cams and they use CBR, smart codec is also off. Should i turn it on and use VBR?

ahhh. @fenderman , didn't know to change to VBR for H.265 from H.264 using CBR! I'll have to give that a shot...
