I was having playback issues running H.264H so I switched to H.265 for better compression....better, but still issues. Switched to H.264 and it appears to be fixed, I will know for sure in the morning.

Can someone explain why H.264 is working better than H.265? In theory H.265 uses higher compression. My CPU and memory are fine, it was the HD that was hitting 100% util when I was having issues.

your bitrates are essentially the same so you wont see any improvement when using cbr.
your issue is not related to the compression type...you have something else going on.

Crud, your right. I have enough video to test better now...

Memory is good, CPU is good, Disk is hitting 100% util at 8x and above playback with only two calendars and things start glitching.
HD is a WD20PURX-64P6ZY0.

Playing back locally. SSD for OS, program and DB.

Any other ideas? I was getting ready to order a new large Purple HD...but need to solve this or at least understand it first.

Can someone confirm that you can run high playback speeds (128x or 256x) of multiple cameras (how many???) from a single purple drive?

Set the cameras to VBR instead CBR. Use h.264
How big are the files, are they 8 hours recording. Set them to one hour recording.

Thanks guys! VBR did work, I left it at the default of4 quality. Almost no disk activity at all... this is an odd one!

I didn't reduce the size of the recording files, what is recommended?
