Noticed that enabling h.264+ on my 2342 brought bandwidth down from 730-820kB/s to 10-80kB/s.
I think I need to disable this though when using the HA+VPP option though, right?
The good news is H.264+ reduces bandwidth; the bad news is it's not yet supported in BI with hardware acceleration enabled. Most of my cameras have the "+" option, but I don't use it because I get better computer performance using hardware acceleration with VPP enabled. Not sure if/when the developer will address this.
H.264+ also degrades the image being recorded. "Local" bandwidth shouldn't be a issue unless you have 75 cameras or are wireless...
Simple, if you have a gigabit switch and you are running a camera at 6,144 Kbit per/second you get... 6,144 kbit/s = 6.14 Mbit/s = 0.00586 Gbit/s
I don't think that is going to mess with your 1 Gbit home network. If you are on older 100 Mbit networking it can be limiting.
But it takes a 10 Mbit/s internet connection to stream 1 camera to your phone at full band with, with overhead. H.264+ won't help, because phones don't support it yet that I know of.
Thanks, guys!
I have the bandwidth and and the networking equipment to handle everything. I'd rather take a hit because I'm trying to get better image quality...so it sounds like another PLUS for simply disabling it.
