Good software for recordings directly to laptop

Hi,

I'm looking to buyan IP camera to make daily recordings directly to my laptop, which will be inthe same room (but on the other side of the room). Recordings can automaticallydelete after three weeks.

Can anyone recommendsome good software to do this?

Do yourself a favor and dont buy that camera..its complete junk..poor resolution..unreliable.

The image quality is junk, vga. They will lose connection if you try using it wifi. The field of view is VERY narrow. They are MPEG not h.264 and will use lots of bandwidth. Get a high def wide angle lens camera and you wont need ptz...that cameras is a junk toy....many of us have them in a junk drawer somewere because we purchased them years ago a a novelty. They are NOT security cameras. If you want to watch your dog, then maybe.
In short, they are a complete waste of money. Take advice from folks who have been around the block. Avoid that camera at all costs.

Fenderman is right, I have 3 similar ones in my junk draw, they don't last night vision is horrid and they die quickly.

Thanks, I have been looking into this further and was able to find a Hikvision with H.264, HD video and night vision for about half the price:

This camera would monitor a room about 25 sqm in size. It is rectangular so the FOV doesn't need to be too wide for the coverage I need. The most critical things are reliable recording and night vision/low light vision, preferably without an obvious led on the camera itself.

Do you guys think this camera is a good fit?

So you should stay away from that aliexpress listing.

Just order the camera recommended by fenderman above. I think it is better than the link you provided. But someone else like fenderman can confirm if this is true.

Like olli said, that is not a hikvision camera....dont buy it. You will get what you paid for...you either need a camera or dont. Getting a junk camera to save a few dollars is the biggest mistake you can make.

That is not possible with the camera alone...you can only ftp photos....best thing is to record to a local NVR or nas. Also remember not to try and update the firmware on that camera as it is a china region cam.

Well it is 2 months later and I have the camera, but the software is not picking up the camera when it's turned on. Is there something else you usually have to do for it to be "found"? I've been turning on/off the camera and computer with no luck so far.

you need to enter the cameras ip address and other credentials...

where is the camera plugged into?
Did you properly install sadp? if you dont install the winpcap it wont show up...
