Gigabit POE switch for cold weather?

Hi Guys

Been following the forum for while - great info!

Looking for advice on a gigabit POE switch that i could put in my garage. Temps in the winter can get down to -30C. Been googling a lot to see what's out there but no luck.

Was thinking of using this DLINK (DGS-1210-10P)
however it says operating Temp -5C to 50C.

Any ideas? Price range under $200 USD ideally. Wondering if you guys have tried putting a "regular" desktop POE switch in a cold weather scenario.

Thanks! Unfortunately not gigabit on the Poe ports. It’s only gigabit on the uplinks. Maybe that doesn’t even matter but I remember seeing a post from fenderman about making sure to get gigabit on the poe ports.

I have a DLINK DGS-1008P installed in my shed until many years without any problem.

The temps here during the winter can go down to -40C.
 
Or put the switch in a heated cabinet. With a small heater used in gun safes.

If the cabinet or enclosure is small enough to fit it all without a heater element, the inside will get warm by the switch itself, if you close the vents of the cabinet / enclosure a little bit.

I like @SkyLake response a lot. Use a 40W incandescent light bulb for the winter in the partial enclosure and the temps will stay above 0C if there is no big drafts.

I think you guys need to move to somewhere warmer, i am shivering just thinking about it. :)

You should not need 1Gbps on the camera PoE ports, maxing out under 30Mbps. mine are closer to 2Mbps.
 
Very helpful info guys! I might not get the gigabit switch. I know Andy has a commercial one that operates at -30C - it's only 100Mbs per port - but maybe that is good enough.

I'm looking at this bandwidth calculator which is helpful: Network IP Security Camera System Bandwidth Calculator

eg. A 10MP IP camera running at 15fps and using H.264 compression uses 25Mbps bandwidth. So I think it might be okay. As long as I don't saturate the uplink i should be okay.
