note: I do not know much about Swann nor this recorder, just that I've spent more than $100 for a 4TB WD purple HDD, so seems like a good deal.

Does this mean this NVR does not play well with Hikvision OEM cameras? and other ONVIF cameras?

Possibly. It definitely talks to their server so it sounds like a cloud deal with typical P2P app.
