They did have quite a time trying to get it knocked out, which is exactly what battery fires do. Once they start melting and shorting out, water won't put them out. You need to cover them in a truckload of sand or a truckload of dirt to smother it. Not the brightest fire fighters. Not one of them was wearing a SCBA, they were breathing in all those billows of smoke.
