He seemed ashamed for him and said they had a long talk.
It is so hard raising kids these days. Teens having nice cars, riding around with friends in the car, doing dumb things. When I was a teen back in the late 60's early 70's, we did dumb things also. Some of it was mean, like lifting and turning a guy's VW Bug sideways in his garage, flaming dog poop on a porch, etc. Never really did anything that caused someone to get hurt or cost them money though. We had cars, but were $100 10+ year old cars. Raised a kid that was a teen in the 90's. Did not really do much in the way of police trouble, but I always worried.

It is hard to know what to do in your case, as in charge him or not. Yes, it was HIS decision to do what he did. Was it the first time he did something bad to someone else? Probably not. I do not think that anyone gets caught the first time. But with friends in the car egging you on to do something stupid and mean, a more or less 'good' kid can do something stupid. It might be unkind to get this kid a record for criminal mischief. Restitution seems appropriate.

One hopes he learns from this experience and he ponders which road he wants to travel. Hopefully he regrets what he did as it was wrong, and not just for getting caught.

Glad to hear the outcome. Many parts of the country the police wouldn't have done that.

Again, it isn't to necessarily arrest them, but hope that by knocking on the door the parents take some responsibility. We wonder why vigilantes start lol...

I bet the police were shocked as well at the quality of the video. They were probably expecting some doorbell camera crap lol.

I also posted this on the Christmas lighting forum I’m on and now everyone wants to know about my camera system. Everyone is impressed with the clarity of the plate captures! Everyone at work thinks I’m nuts for so many cameras!
Is the Hookup part of the Christmas lighting forum :lmao::lmao::lmao: Just look for the guy saying reolinks would have performed better :lmao:

Just put up my inflatable frosty and not even a half hour later some kid decides he needs to destroy it. Thanks to my numerous cameras and LPR it was easy for the police to find him! What I'm most upset about is it was an "old school" inflatable with a large fan and not the cheaply made ones you get now.
It looks like he started to rape your light at 2:16. He looks like a pussy ass loser, good god. Nice cam set-up!

Looks like a drunk mailbox checker as he seemed to check your mailbox 1st then, attack the light then think it's funny to jump onto frosty.

I'm guessing the PD will probably just give them a warning. Lets hope they at least make them pay for the damages.

It's a pity you didn't do this:

Damn, I was hoping for some camera footage. :(

Oh god. I had not seen his lighting video. I just watched most of it. As to be expected he provides a mix of good and bad info. Started out ok and then just went downhill. As to be expected I’ve never heard of the controller he recommends or that software. And I am on three different Christmas lighting forums!

In my neck of the woods, you're probably not originally from these parts if you DON'T leave your Christmas lights up all year! :lmao:

It's a redneck status symbol! Well, not as much as an old washing machine, a push mower with no engine and a '74 Granada up on blocks...in the FRONT yard!

I do have lights up all year! But mine blend into the house when off. Now you’d be impressed with the guy down the block who has an old string of C9 lights that is up all year but is never on. I suspect enough bulbs burned out he gave up.

Holy Cow!! This is some complicated stuff. I need a EE degree before attempting that project.

His setup is impressive but, I think I'll stick with $5 Walmart string lights on an extension cord and call it a day.

Ha! It’s not as bad as he makes it seem! Just need a little soldering practice. I have plenty of regular string lights too! Soldered together the controllers myself! I have four of these, each controls 24 individual strands/channels of lights. All timed to music.

Well ... I'll take your word for it. But, I won't attempt it anyway because I'm not climbing roofs and 30 foot trees to install lights.

It's not so much the police is it is the prosecutors. They are the ones that make the decision to let these kids off.

Great cams and dialed in nicely.

It just baffles me that these kids do this at 8:00pm? Such a chance that they will get caught by just about anyone in the hood. And for the driver to get out and do it? Think of the time it would take for him to get back in the car and drive off if you or someone else came along. They should take his license away. There should be some kind of law that states kids under a certain age, if they are using the car for crime, they lose their license for a few years.
It's the politicians, at least over here. The jails are full so they don't want to send people to jail. The left wing cries about turning young people into criminals if you prosecute them (it doesn't seem to compute they're often ALREADY criminals).

My guess here though is drunk students.

So far as the driver, over here our laws allow a vehicle used in a crime to be seized and sold or crushed. It's reserved mainly for serious crimes although if you're caught without Road Tax, that's exactly what they do. It seems not paying Road Tax is a serious crime over here like drug smuggling. Might be a bit harsh in this situation if the car was crushed. I'm guessing the driver would claim he thought the passenger was just going to go out and take a funny selfie with Frosty. He didn't expect him to vandalise the display, making it hard to pin anything on him unless his mate fingered him (non sexually of course).

What kit is that? I miss the days when I had the incentive to solder... 'tho I do not miss the headaches from the solder smoke

Frosty gets redemption, but that poor lamp. It had hopes of growing up and becoming the next pixar model. And now all is lost due to some 5 second video clip of it involved in some light porn... forever circulating the internet. Despite the polishing, its bulb will never shine as bright, ever again.

IPC's are the crazy cat ladies of our time, forever vigilant .. bino vision on hand, waiting in the window for something to go down. I love it!!

What I don't like is that the smuck took out your old school Frosty, after his buddy powered his window down and prompted him I suspect; forever the follower. Did you ask him if he was trying out for the football team? I've love to see him try that tackle on an actual man. That would look like something off Cops. Isn't there a completely useless tackle in the lead up to the episode starting where a loser tries to tackle a cop and gets his ass tossed like so much lint being brushed off.

Awesome captures. Some of you guys have really effective, impressive setups.
