Dear kind people of ipcamtalk.com,

I recently bought an ipcam on amazon, it is a DBPOWER VA033K+ overal a foscam replica. It was easy to set up, wifi works, videofeed of the internal and external networks work. The problem is that whenever i try entering my email settings the test tells me: failed to connect to server. The customer service of DB power is so sh*tty so my last hope is turning to you guys. I tested the same smtp settings with a tool i found online and they work. I just want the camera to send me motion alerts and renewed ip addresses.

Can someone please help me?

Jordy

Welcome to the forum! post a screen shot of BOTH your camera network settings and email settings. Avoid foscam, its garbage.

[h=3]SMTP information for the outgoing mail server[/h]
  • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS or STARTTLS instead.
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker@icloud.com, not emilyparker)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

Try using your icloud email and password rather than me.com
You might also just want to setup a free gmail account to use with this...i wouldnt trust my credentials to a camera like this...

I got the icloud information on the same website you did, i tried several settings, hotmail, gmail,... nothing works, so i don't think the problem is in the email settings. But what could it be...?

I had the same problem with a DBPower VA039K, everything was working except the email test and alarm notifications.

Fortunately Telnet is running on this model, after much hacking around I managed to determine the problem was with the mailx binary embedded in the firmware. To check:

Telnet to camera IP
login root , password 123456

run # /system/system/bin/mailx

if you get the message segmentation fault - the binary is corrupt.

Found a 'similar' firmware T-sys-48.2.0.143.bin on http://www.atz-tech.com/, managed to extract mailx from the bin file & replace the one in the camera.

run # /system/system/bin/mailx - now gives the message no mail for root

Mail test and alerts now working fine.

Cheers

I had similar issue and was able to fix it after updating firmware.
Today I managed to fix my IP camera email/FTP issue. I have ESCAM brick QD300 and few Ctronics cameras using same firmware version
V4.02.R12.00006510.100010.1303 with build date 2014-09-15. I could see lot of forums discussed about the BUGS with emails alerts and FTP upload however I couldn't find the matching firmware.
Finally I succeeded to get one from this forum and found it works perfectly fine. Sharing the details so that it helps someone with similar issue
