I was hoping to extract video clips from my Night Owl WNVR21B40 straight to my PC by using a USB to USB, thinking the DVR would read my PC HD as a removable drive but neither device seems to be recognized by the other. Is this possible?

both NVR and PC will be acting as USB host and expecting to see a non-host device I expect, neither would present as USB storage to the other. Bad idea anyway as you could end up causing corruption on the PC filesystems (or NVR). Can you not offload over the network instead? Else you're down to using an intermediate USB storage device switching them between the two.

A PC transfer cable might work. It has a module in the middle which emulates a USB client. The software is only required at the PC end.
