Hi,

I've used HIKVISION cameras for a while and really like them. Recently purchased a DS-2DE4225IW-DE PTZ camera for use on our rural home.

Q1: I had a devil of a time to get it to initialize using SADP. I tried everything including loading up the CD version and was about to give up when for some unknown reason it initialized. Anyone have similar experiences ? I just assumed that the latest SADP, on the HIKVISION website, would work with all HIKVISION cameras.

Q2: The PTZ camera uses both POE and a 12V supply. During debugging, I connected only the POE from a Netgear switch, and the camera/IR lights are fully functional. Does anyone know what the 12V supply does ?

Gives folks the option to run the camera with just regular Ethernet (w/o PoE) + an external power adapter.

Thanks for the nice welcome. I came here in 1976 and a fantastic career starting with Fairchild (CMOS design).
This area was so different then, full of orchards and def not so congested.
Am retired now and will be shortly going across the state to a homestead in Fresno area.

Really appreciate the reply. Yeah, that makes sense. Much prefer to just use the POE, but was concerned the power required by the motor drive would exceed the capabilities of POE.

The camera requires poe+ power. If you use a poe+ switch or injector you wont have any issues up to the 328f spec. However if you use the 12v and dont properly calculate the voltage drop over a long run you will have problems. Use a proper switch. Your initial problem could be related to trying to power the camera with both poe and 12v simultaneously which is a big no no.

I have a few of these ptz’s and I just activated them via the web interface. Haven’t had an issue that way.

Never powered them via Poe but only via a Poe+ switch or Poe+ injector.

Thanks to all.

I was able to power the PTZ camera from both a POE switch (Netgear GS108PE) or using the provided power supply. The GS108PE does not explicitly say it's a POE+, but it seems to have plenty of power/port. I did try to use a POE injector, which is not POE+, and that didn't work.
I did review the User Guide for the PTZ camera but couldn't find anywhere that it requires POE+ and not to use both POE/Power supply at the same time.

On the SADP tool, I was EVENTUALLY able to activate the PTZ Camera. I think the trick was to double click. TBH I tried many different things; reloading software and all kinds of password combinations.

But it's working great now. Thanks again.
