This might be some science fiction stuff but can or is BI planning to do some dog face recognition? I use a photo archiving program that is pretty good doing face recognition for people. Actually it can even recognize our dog sometimes but I don't think that was their intention. Anyways, this would allow for some nice home automation.

This would be a DeepStack item, not BI.

But your best bet would be to train your own model.

Most of us have found that facial recognition is more gimmicky and novelty than anything else. If you have to put in 5 or 10 or 15 or 35 pictures or more of yourself in the system for it to recognize it is you...then you shouldn't expect much.... My success rate was under 5% so I moved on to other things LOL.

Who knows, would a dog be easier, maybe if you are just identifying by a few breeds?

It can work in certain situations like a business that requires everyone to stop in front of the camera and the camera is at head height. Outside of that, the percentage of being accurate is probably not going to be super high.

Someone here posted once how horrible it was inside his house identifying his neighbors and others as him. Another guy his kids and wife were being tagged as him. And then at night, forget it. I wouldn't trust it for any automation.

Unless you spend the big bucks that casinos and airports have LOL.

Heck even in ideal situations like a business with the camera at ideal height and optimal lighting it fails....

My wife actually works for a company that uses face recognition to enter the "employee only" area. It works pretty well. But it's probably pretty expensive. The photo archiving program I use does indeed need a bunch of faces to recognize them and even then it gets them wrong sometimes. It is doing a pretty good job, though. It actually saves me time or I wouldn't use it. But I get it, dog face recognition for cams is probably going to take some time...
