Do I need 4K decoding?

Hello. I currently have the Hikvision DS-7604 which supports 4ch 1080p/1ch 4k decoding.

I installed a new 4K (8MP) Hikvision camera on the DS-7604. From what I understand, the device now is struggling because it has 3 1080p and 1 4k cameras?

Do I need a new one? For example the DS-7608 which has 2ch 4k/8ch 1080p decoding?

1) recommend that The NVR and cameras come from the same manufacture.
2) Compare the specs, outbound and Inbound bit rate processing
3) on an NVR buy twice as big as you think you will need.

on the in coming band width for theDS-76xx NVR 4port = 20 Mbps, 8Port = 40 Mbps, 16 Port = 80Mbps. These are all low end. Look for 160 or 320 Mbps. if you plan on adding more cameras.

Also do not chase MegaPixels on your cameras, more MP is not necessarily better. The Current go to cameras have 1/1.8 sensor size and 4MP.

Thanks for the reply. This means that I do not need a DVR with better encoding? Also, which models are with 160Mbps? I see the DS-7608NI-I2 says 80/256Mbps. Is that sufficient?

The camera I bought, is the DS-2CD2086G2-I(U) which is 4K and with 1/1.8 sensor.

The NVR you need is based on the number of camera and what the resolution and frame rate of those cameras.

the specs for DS-7608NI-I2
8 channel IP cameras --- 2-ch @ 12 MP (20fps) / 4-ch @ 8 MP (25fps) / 8-ch @ 4MP (30fps) / 16-ch @ 1080p (30fps)

The cameras that will be connected to that NVR are 4 1080 cameras and 1 4K camera. The one I have now is either 1 4K or 4 1080p from what I understand.
So, will the 7608NI-I2 be an upgrade or not?

What I dont understand is, if I connect 2 x 12MP cameras on the 7608NI-I2, will that max out the amount of cameras the NVR can decode? Or it can have 2 x12MP cameras and 6 x 4MP cameras for example?

If the second case is possible, I can get the DS-7608NI-K2 which is half the price of the I2.

You still have not said what the FPS is
