So I'm totally new to all of this and trying to figure out how to fully set up this system

I have an NVR and 2 cameras at the moment

Now I need/use Blue Iris software to access these cameras and record the footage from them to my NVR?

Do I add this software on my computer or to the NVR?

Blue Iris and your NVR are two different systems.

Blue Iris needs to be ran on a Windows computer. It is essentially an NVR and takes the place of the traditional NVR.

Whoever makes your NVR will have software/app available to review the NVR - for example if it is Dahua, it will be SmartPSS for a computer and DMSS for mobile devices.

Now if you want to run redundant systems and have an NVR and a computer with Blue Iris, that can be done as well. But I don't think that is what you are asking, nor does BI integrate or communicate with the NVR, meaning you cannot review NVR video thru BI unless you are using BI as your NVR.
