I took the plunge and bought the DH-SD6CE245U-HNI. I am trying to figure out how to setup the auto tracking. I have 180 degrees that I would like to scan then have it follow the car or person.

I am not doing something right can someone help me?

Thanks.

Have to track from a preset

Are you sure?
I'm sure in the newer firmware for my particular ptz SD59225U-HNI
That there is now an option to actually just auto track.
I haven't played with it because it's about as vague as a vague thing as when you tick the box there's no customisation at all.

@reeves1985 you are right there is an Auto Track option under the intelligence tab but in practice it doesn't work that great. What @Cameraguy is showing is a more advanced way of at least controlling the camera tracking across a location in a cleaner way. For a lot of us with these PTZ's is has led to better results. Specifically you get to set a preset(s) as he shows above to focus on specific areas and then you can setup IVS for intrusion/tripwire etc based tracking along with Min & Max target sizes. These extra 'dials' really do allow for a better experience with Auto Tracking. However the BIG caveat here is that Auto Tracking on a good day / night looks and works phenomenally well. On a bad day, its hard to not take it personally :) Play with both and see what you find works in your usage case but for me, the IVS way that @Cameraguy shows works a lot better (albeit with the caveats of technology, lights, shadow, birds etc taken into account).

Yeah I agree I was initially referring to the initial answer that auto tracking was only on ivms and could only be set from present.

The intelligence ptz tick box is rubbish at best even the ivms rules version can be a little flaky

Guys check out my channel for tracking footage..
CameraGuy

message me screen shots and I'll help you fine tune it

That’s where I got totally confused... the auto tracking checkbox. I figured it’s a little bit more work to setup. I’ll keep at it.
Here is a compilation of all the tracking from a day..

many are skeptical but 59225 didnt miss a track all day.. I turn off auto tracking at night. Headlights drive it crazy and dont have enough light to go color

If you move it even just on tick from the ivs selected preset it wont track.. although I have mine to return to the ivs preset after a certain time incase someone moved it and forgot to return it to that preset

@caneraguy, agree. I have the same thing ‘return to preset’ as well as time tasks setup. Like time tasks to switch to different tours of presets by different times of day

All of this input helped me setup my camera. Finally figured it out today and got it doing what I wanted it to do. I may not be the most popular person in my neighborhood with my presets but I love what this camera can do. I will be getting more PTZs down the road.
