DH-SD22204UE-GN - tuning tips for day and night

Image is improving at night... if I were to upgrade this nice sized PTZ with another similar what would you all recommend?

Current requirements
  • Outdoor PTZ
  • IR built in to improve night vision
  • Audio (nice to have)
 
Show us an image at night to compare

Budget?

B&W or color?

Distance needed?

Auto Tracking?

They work best higher up. You have a place 15+ ft in mind?

I ask because you are looking at a range of $250 to over $2500 and they aren't the same ;)

  • Auto Tracking? Not sure why I would need auto tracking... just watching backyard and nighttime wildlife (bobcats, bears, mountain lions, etc)
  • Height - 10ft high
  • Profile - Low profile

Andy has a number of cheap ones. I;m not familiar with any of those

Autotracking means the PTZ can by itself, recognize and track targets, human/vehicle/animal (some)


Problem with most of them:
a- 1/2.8" sensor on 4MP (4K would be even worse) is not a good match especially at night
b- some like the mini flat suck at night due to weak IR

Because most use that lesser sensor on 4MP the #1 thing to look for IMHO is strong IR and/or white lights to help it see at night
Remember to cut the spec IR distance in 1/2 to start

Dont know what Andy wants for this new one - much stronger illumination


Maybe someone else has a current recommendation, Dahua has a bunch of new smaller PTZs out

Keep in mind most any ptz will start at 60 degrees or less at minimum zoom so depending on where you keep yours parked now you may end up with a much narrower field of view. The main exception I know of from EmpireTech being the PTZ3E405-AI with 95-30 FOV, there’s a few others including what you have now but they’re not going to be any better. I installed one in my barn and it does fairly well but it’s definitely at the low end of PTZ’s and 4mp on the not ideal sensor. I’d recommend a fixed lens at 2.8 or 3.6mm backed up by a ptz. You may be surprised just how much you can see with a 4mp camera on the proper 1/1.8 sensor.

-R model with smoke glass, invisible lens, so hard to see where the camera is watching at. But less IR distance, But very quiet. Best for indoor or some place that don't want people know there is a camera here.
PTZ425DB-AT This one a little noisy, but stronger IR, so can reach far at night.
AI function they are the same.

Same camera except for the smoked lens which reduces IR range I believe. Its Not noisy such that your neighbors or you will hear it over the television

But yeah on a quiet morning a close by walker may hear it and look up. Which is a good thing, face ID for free!
