Delayed live view of IP cameras in Hik-Connect app, but perfect on same Wi-Fi

Hi!

We live in a block of apartments where we have installed a HikVision intercom system. This is paired with 4 Dahua IP cameras.
We managed to configure the indoor units to view outside Dahua IP cameras around the building. The only way we could see the cameras on the indoor screen and the Hik-Connect app was to add them using RTSP URL.
Every indoor unit is connected to a different WiFi.

The result is that every owner can view the outside cameras from anywhere using Hik-Connect.
The only problem is that the live view on Hik app of these cameras is delayed or slow, but only when the user is not connected to the same network as the indoor station.

When we are connected to the same WiFi, everything is perfect, even on higher settings of the sub-stream. The moment we switch on cellular data or connect to other WiFi, the live view starts to become very laggy. We tried lowering the settings on sub-stream of ip cameras, but not much changed.

We thought of transcoding problems, but why does the app works perfectly fine on the same WiFi as the doorbell?
Also, in the attempt to find a perfect solution of pairing HikVision intercom to Dahua NVR we tried connecting the cameras using ONViF with port 80. The live view was from the mainstream and the Hik-Connect app had no problems on playback on any network from anywhere. We didn’t keep this setup because we were unable to visualise the surrounding cameras from the doorbell screen, only using the Hik app.

Thank you!

Regarding when on cellular data, what is the upload speed of the modem to the Internet?

Hi!

I am quite sure internet speed is not the problem. We live in a very good 5G reception area. Also, when we tried adding the cameras using ONVIF protocol set on mainstream (so higher resolution and bitrate) the live view of Hik-connect app was very smooth, regardless of what network we tried (public wi-fi or cellular).

It is somehow related to how Hik-connect app manages RTSP connections. ONVIF was perfect, but we could not see the cameras on the doorbell screen, it only works on mainstream with Dahua ( Camera visible on HIK Vision app, but error on door station display ) .

Could it be related to unicast vs multicast? We only succeeded getting the live view on Hik-connect app and devices using unicast. We followed these settings: , but the moment we set "unicast=false", Hik devices get "Failed live view" error.

I'm talking about how fast the camera video streams at the site get UPLOADED to the Internet so they can then be viewed FROM that same Internet via 5G cellular.

Everyone in the building is using their doorbells connected to their WiFi to upload the video stream to the internet. The main Hik and Dahua switches are connected together, but not connected to the internet. The internet connection is done individually via WiFi in each apartment. That is because we didn’t want everyone use only someone’s internet all the time to view cameras. The slowest upload speed in the building is around 100 mbps.

I hope this answered your question. The confusion about this is related to the fact that on ONVIF settings, live view works smoothly, in the same environment with the same upload speeds.

Did I understand correctly? Thank you!
