Hello,

I'm not sure how to understand "Decoding capability" and "Recording Resolution".

For example on this DS-7616NI-E2/16P model: DS-7616NI-E2/16P-Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. Ltd..

It has 16 channels, "Recording Resolution" of "6 MP/5 MP/4 MP/..." and "Decoding Capability" of "16-ch@4CIF, 12-ch@720P, 6-ch@1080P".

If I have 16 camera configured at 6 MP, will it record at 16 image feeds at 6 MP or at 4CIF ?

How do you visualize a live view at 6 MP quality if the decoding capacity is limited to 1080P ?

I read it as being it can record the full resolution for all the cameras but playback (at any one time) is limited to those specs of "16-ch@4CIF, 12-ch@720P, 6-ch@1080P". The HDMI output is limited to 1080p so I'm guessing the spec of "6 channel @1080p" would be when streamed over a network? (I'd imagine you'd also need to take into account the networking limitations of 160Mbps input and 80Mbps output?)

Have you looked at this model with a 4K HDMI output? DS-7616NI-I2/16P-Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. Ltd.

Live view / Playback:| 12MP/8MP/6MP/5MP/4MP/3MP/1080p/UXGA/720p/VGA/4CIF/DCIF/2CIF/CIF/QCIF
Capability: | 4-ch @ 4K, or 16-ch @ 1080p

It gives you a 4K HDMI output which might be handy? With 160Mbps input and 256Mbps output.
