Dahua RTSP stream troubles

I have a X21A1E1 NVR that is connecting to two hikvision IP cams. I can retrieve the sub stream in VLC with no issues but not the main stream. I am using the url rtsp://adminassword@192.168.89.198:554/1/cam/realmonitor?channel=5&subtype=1 It takes a long time to load and when it does the image is useless. Could this be related to it being a non dahua camera? The image looks fine from the dahua interface.

Do you have smartcodec (H.264+/H.265+ I think) enabled? That would prevent most standard H.264/265 players from playing the stream properly I believe.

Assuming this is the right place to enable it, yes I have H264 enabled.

you are wrong, you have to change the smart codec in the camera settings and not in the VLC.

ah I see, but I only get that option on the analog channels. Currently i have no analog cams only ip
