Ordered my NVR from Amazon and it should have 8 channels but I can only see one camera port in the back. Have I bought the wrong one ? I thought it would of had 8?

They sell a one port NVR where you provide the POE to the cameras and just need one ethernet run to the NVR and then the sell another NVR with 8 POE ports.
Depends on your system and how the wiring is set up as to which one would be more beneficial.
The nice thing about the one-port is you can put the NVR anywhere you have access to an ethernet cable and do not need to run all the camera cables to the NVR - just plug them in a POE switch.

You'd get a more definite answer posting the make and model of the NVR. Most likely, there is not a camera port on the NVR. There's a network port and you need to hook your cameras and the NVR to your network using a switch.
