I just bought this NVR and have connected 2 generic 1080 cameras, 1 generic 3MP camera, and 2 Dahua 3MP cameras.

The playback on all cams is very smooth but the live preview on all the 3MP cams is jerky.

I only see this via the NVR's direct monitor. If I look at the live view via PSS it's smooth.

I've tried every combination of camera settings (fps, iframes, bitrate, VBR vs. CBR).

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Does the NVR support connecting to a 4K monitor? If so I would try that, as perhaps the jerkiness is coming from it attempting to output a >1080p video to a 1080p or less monitor.

Thank you for the reply mat200.

Yes, this model is capable of 4K output, so that is a real possibility. I'll drag my 4K TV in from the bedroom, see how that works, and post the results. Cheers.

Well, I thought it was an insightful suggestion but no, switching to 4K output didn't fix the issue.

Is your firmware older than 6/12/17? There's this one ( DH_NVR4xxx_Eng_P_V3.203.0000.0.R.20170612 ) and also a version for specific 4K machines ( DH_NVR4XXX-4K_Eng_P_V3.210.0005.0.R.20160614 ). Both list applicable NVR's, firmware ==> here <== .
Sadly, neither list what is addressed in the Release Notes, they just state 'Bug Fixes'; not a lot of insight, but worth your trouble, I guess, if your f/w is older.

Thank you TonyR for your suggestion. I knew that my NVR came with 3.210 firmware from May 2017 but had not checked if there was anything later, and yes there is. The latest firmware for the NVR4108HS-4KS2 is 3.215.0000000.1.R.170902, much more recent.

I'll be happy to install that, no matter the impact on this particular issue, so Cheers.

"Have you tried a higher resolution?"

The only higher res choice is 4K. I connected that to my UHD Samsung and confirmed that the TV switched up to that mode. No impact on this 3MP jerkiness in Live Preview.
