IPC-HDBW4831E-ASE 8MP mini dome for $179 on Amazon

I read turets preferred for outdoor use; is this because mini domes reflect IR light ?

Is anybody using a 8mp turet yet ?

Thanks !

This is the one you want:
https://www.amazon.com/Dahua-IPC-HD...D=31oYP3TYGoL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

Can also buy from @EMPIRETECANDY ($158) if you message him directly, but here is his AliExpress store:
Aliexpress.com : Buy IPC HDW4831EM ASE 8MP IR Eyeball Network Camera No Logo Built in Mic replace for IPC HDW4830EM AS ,free DHL shipping from Reliable network camera suppliers on Empire Technology Co., Ltd

For what it's worth, this camera will not do any better in low light than the 6MP IPC-HDW4631EM-ASE ( I have tested both) and renders very similar detail, so unless you are dealing w/ pretty substantial distances (greater than 150ft.) I doubt the 8MP cam will benefit you. Just my $.02 :-)

As with all these cameras, make sure you flash it with the latest firmware from the Dahua INTERNATIONAL site.

The latest firmware was uploaded by @EMPIRETECANDY a while back so check out this thread:

20180523 Firmware for DH_IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea

This firmware works for the 4231/4631/4831 as well as the 5231/5631/5831 ( I have all of these cameras and it's running it with no problems) just make sure you update it and then do a FULL factory reset on the camera BEFORE you start customizing everything just to get started the right way.

@Burton_Flooring

Would the international version of the 4631 ( IPC-HDW4631C-A) take the firmware update even though vendor states on amazon that firmware is not upgradeable?

Thanks !

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

IPC-HDW4631C-A = Chinese Market version.. not international, thus probably hacked to get English on the UI - thus problematic if you try to upgrade it.

According to pretty much everyone here, that's a no-go. Even messing w/ Modded firmware could lead to a situation where the camera no longer works w/ the NVR due to a firmware update.

For me, it's just not worth the hassle, and the security risk.

What I don't understand is why in the attached photo it is referred in the Amazon ad as "International" What is the actual model number for the International version that one can safely update the firmware?

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Because someone selling it found out they can sell many many more by putting text "international version" in the picture.

Serious, when we state:

DO NOT trust vendor descriptions, DO NOT trust blindly vendors from Aliexpress, Alibaba, Ebay, Amazon...

we state this repeatedly as many of us have been taken, conned, and defrauded....

What is the legitimate version model number for the 6mp turret 4631?

Hi hdtvjeff...

If you search on the camera model number and it does not result in a hit on the first page of google results from Dahua you've probably got a model number which google can't find on a legit Dahua website.

Look at the Dahua International website - or try Andy's Aliexpress store.

Also note how they include the crappiest cable possible with the purchase of this Chinese market camera...
