Dahua Cameras with a Hikvision NVR

I've read the thread from last year on this, and it was really helpful, but any insights would be amazing.
I have a system with Dahua cameras, and a new Hikvision NVR box.

I plug the camera into a PoE switch (Along with my computer and the NVR)
I log into the camera using the Dahua Config tool, and set the camera IP to 192.168.1.2
I log into the camera directly, and confirm that this is the case, and that ONVIF is enabled.
I see that the port on the camera is 37777

I then plug the camera into the NVR, and change the settings to 'Manual, ONVIF, 37777'

Unfortunately, although the box 'sees' the camera, it responds with 'Network abnormal'.
The NVR is on 192.168.1.149, so The subnet is correct.

From where I'm sat, it looks like the settings on the box and on the camera match, But I feel like theres a key part missing that I'm not seeing.
The default on the NVR box shows 192.168.254.x as the IP range, but I can't configure that in the Dahua camera settings, as theres no 'Default Gateway' info for it (I understand that this is normally the router IP address, but it appears that the NVR box is acting as a router, and that IP doesnt do the job.

Any guidance would be awesome

I was only going by what the Dahua config program was saying - Hopefully I'll be heading back there after the weekend, So I'll update then.
 
Any chance the NVR "auto assigns" Ip's? like the Dahua's and Amcrests, if you connect a New Camera the NVR assigns it's IP address in the 10.x.x.x scheme.

It does initially, but that can be set manually -The bottom image on the OP is from the Hikvision NVR, and I was using channel 1 with the Dahua camera I'm trying to configure, so the NVR defaults to 192.168.254.x, but I've found that it will pickup the static IP from the camera automatically once it's plugged in.
I did think about setting the IP to that range, but I'm not sure what to set the Gateway IP to, as this would normally be the router, but once it's plugged into the NVR, the router is no longer in the equation

Yes, thats correct.

When I'm setting the IP of the camera, it asks for the IP address, subnet mask and gateway, but I didn't know what to set the gateway as. The NVR itself is sat on the regular network, so is on 192.168.1.x, and isn't accepted as a valid input as a gateway address.
 
NVR is 192.168.254.1, unless you changed it. NVRs with POE pots have two different subnets, one for your LAN, one for the integrated network switch.
 
Ah, I getcha. Thanks for your help - I got a few more things to try when I head up there.
Once I get it all working, I'll pop a post on here for future generations!

I'm sure you've got a good reason to go through all this pain when a new basic dahua recorder is around £100 ?

Yes, I have a few other sites that are all Hikvision, and I'm wanting to use a single app to remote view them. I've not yet found a solid application that can remote view cameras from different manufacturers
 
I knew there would be a good reason for the pain :)

Thing about the app is no benefits to any manufacture to not promote lock in and any 3rd party writing one would have no revenue stream.
it's only getting more complex with analytics etc and needing to speak to the API's so yep, unlikely.

Blue Iris (but you would need a PC for it). You can use BI along with the NVRs and bring the feeds from the NVR into BI.
 
I did see that, however it's limited to 64 cameras - I have 11 sites total each with between 13-16 cameras. Also, I'm not a fan of dropping £70 on software that wanting me to pay before letting me trial it to see if it actually works.
 
Um, you can try it as a trial without paying. Simply download it and give it a try. It will say evaluation for 14 days or until you pay for it. I did that and new withing 30 minutes it was superior to any NVR I have used.
 
I guess I read the website wrong. Either way, This is the only one left thats not Hikvision at this point, and iVMS does what I need it to
 
Final update - Got it working, @Securame was spot on.

For future generations, heres how I did it:
I got a PoE Network switch (Needs to be PoE so the IP Camera can be powered)
Plugged that into power, and then plugged ethernet cables from the switch to my Router and my laptop

Ready to start - I fired up the Hikvision NVR, and once it was on, I had a look at the settings - The default IP addresses for the IP cameras were in the 192.168.254.x range starting at 2.
Thanks to Secureames info (A user on here), I found out that the 'Gateway' address of the Cameras on the NVR was 192.168.254.1
I am thinking of it as: The NVR box has it's own mini-network inside for just the cameras.

I downloaded the Dahua Config tool. Once that was all installed, I was ready to start.

I headed to the kettle and made myself a cup of coffee. Caffeine is essential for the process.

I then plugged a Camera into the PoE switch. You gotta give it a minute or two to power up, then click on the Refresh icon on the Dahua config tool (Two arrows in a circle)
The camera should appear in the main part of the config tool
As I wasn't sure what was up with the cameras, I actually Factory reset them, so I could set the passwords myself. The default is user: admin, Password: admin (This will be needed when they are added to the NVR later, so it's important to know the password for the camera)

Now for the juicy bit
Click 'Modify IP' (Was the main screen of the Config tool) Click 'Edit'.
Set the Mode to Static
Set the IP address to 192.168.254.x - with x being the address of the camera. Each camera needs a unique number for x, and 1 is already taken (As above). I started at 2 and just incremented it for each additional camera.
If you are adding to an existing system, just check the NVR to see which numbers have already been used and use a different one.
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.254.1
Pressed 'Ok'.

The config tool looked like it didnt update, but I pressed the refresh button and could see that it did.

Ok, I then plugged the camera into the NVR. I was accessing the NVR through the web interface (i.e remotely) but this can be done on the box too.
Give it a minute or so for the camera to boot up.

Head to the camera management section of the settings, and take a look at the list of cameras. Chances are the one you are looking at may say something like 'connecting...' or anything other than that lovely 'Online' that we love to see.
Anyhow, Click the camera, Click 'Modify'
Set the 'Adding Method' to 'Manual'. Chances are it'll be on 'Plug and Play'
This will allow you to edit the rest of the info.

Set the IP address to whatever you set the Camera to on the config tool earlier
Set the Protocol to ONVIF
Set the Management port to 80
Channel can be left as-is
Username: admin
Password: (whatever you set it to in the config tool, default is admin)
Ok: (Password again)
Transfer Protocol: Auto

Press OK.
Took about 30 seconds or so for the camera to appear on the Live view.

Repeat x16 (Or however many cameras you got)
