It is possible that the electricity savings will pay for itself. Sandy Bridge (2000-series) and Ivy Bridge (3000-series) made some great improvements in efficiency over the 1st generation Nehalem chips, not to mention the capability to use the first-generation quicksync.

The 2nd gen i5 should do better all-around.
