CPU question i5 or i7

My BI setup has been running on my old i7-860 computer for few years now. I now have 5 3mp hiks. I want to add more cams and the CPU is already high.

I have another computer, i5-2400, should I stay with the i7 or switch to the i5 PC?

I would say switch, the difference is not that big, but it has quick sync which will help a lot.

It is possible that the electricity savings will pay for itself. Sandy Bridge (2000-series) and Ivy Bridge (3000-series) made some great improvements in efficiency over the 1st generation Nehalem chips, not to mention the capability to use the first-generation quicksync.

The 2nd gen i5 should do better all-around.
