Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is a way that you can connect Uniview cameras to be able to view alongside other smart devices in the Apple Homekit app?

Once you know the Uniview cam's RTSP port and URL, and it streams correctly to VLC, it should work as well as the Hikvision in the video.

Thanks Tony, Does this always need to be done via a PC or can it all be configured on an Android based tablet?
Not being a user of Apple Homekit or having performed his procedure, I can't say. :idk:
Once the RTSP URL is known, it should be playable on any video player on any O/S platform (PC, Mac, Android).

You will need to run an instance of Homebridge and Homebridge-Camera-FFmpeg plug-in to get non-HK certified cameras into the Home app.

Once you do, the cameras will be available on all Apple platforms (iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS). Works automagically!

Thanks - Does this initially have to be done on a pc and the PC be on all the time or just for the initial set up?

The instance of Homebridge needs to be running 24/7/365.

You can install Homebridge on any number of platforms, including virtualized.

Ah I see... what do you mean when you say virtulised?

Virtual Machine. Many OEM NAS appliances support some sort of virtualization or Docker containers, or you can set up you own virtualization host.

Examples:
1. VirtualBox
2. Proxmox <- This is the one I use.
3. QNAP, Synology, etc.
4. TrueNAS
