I'm wanting to implement some cameras in hallways and smaller office rooms, but noticed the 180 camera below has a "close focus distance" of 3.6m (11.81ft) Does this mean it should not be used for a smaller area and won't have the ability to focus on subjects any closer than 11 feet?

I havent used that specific camera but yes, in general thats what it means. Things will get blurry or increasingly less focused inside of that distance

Very obvious on the bigger 1/1.2" sensor 5849T1 (color 4K-X)

This settings are still on auto otherwise it would also make sense to me if I had manually set black and white there that I would then no longer have a colored image.
No kidding. The limited depth of field on the big sensor and low f number lens makes near objects very noticebly blurred. Tack sharp beyond the critical, min distance, though.

hmmm .. seems rather long the Close Focus Distance .. 11.8 feet .. I expected it to be shorter ..

Model Number: DH-IPC-PDW5849-A180-E2-ASTE

Close Focus Distance 3.6 m (11.81 ft)

( the more I look at this, the more I think there is a mistake .. can anyone confirm ? )

That's a spec that you can't really rely on just looking at it on paper. I've seen some that go either way. A 5842 that I have I think that they list the close focus at ~6 feet but manually I could get it very good down to less than a foot. But then you still have the fairly short DOF so you start to lose things out 5 feet beyond that if you do. I think maybe they spec that at the closest focus to meet some minimum level with the overall focus set to infinity.

Hi @cones

Perhaps picking a model up and testing it to see how well it works, here's and example I found on youtube where the camera still has on the protective film ..
