Can only see one of my 2 cameras on the web interface, but I can see both in BI at home.

I don't see a whole lot of controls on the web interface, so unless it's hiding somewhere I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

At home BI is running fine with 2 Amcrest cameras, triggers work, everything appears to be good, images are great. When I go to the web interface while at work I only see one of the two cameras (image still great), I don't see any way to toggle between them.

Any help would be most appreciated.

By "web interface" if you mean UI3, BI's built-in web server, insure you have "All Cameras" selected in the drop-down ("Current Group" selection) at left side.

I see what's happening now. I can connect individually directly to each of my 3 cameras by going to my external WAN address and adding the port address for the camera I want to see. But I don't seem to be connecting to BI.

In order to access BI's webserver ("UI3") remotely where all the cameras are displayed you must configure your router to forward a port to the BI server's LAN IP but that is NOT recommended. This assume you have a public WAN IP, meaning it is exposed to the Internet. It does not have to be a static WAN IP, but if it's a dynamic WAN IP you'll need a DDNS.

Instead it is recommended to use a VPN and not the kind that hides your IP and your country of origin,. I'm talking about a VPN server set up on your router such as OpenVPN and the OpenVPN client app installed on your smartphone. Or you can also set up remote access to BI using Zerotier or Tailscale. Many threads on IPCT about how to do that.

Well, I'm pretty sure my router has VPM capability. I'm just not well versed in setting it up. I'll have to look into that. I know I'm on the ragged edge of everything snapping into place, I just gotta get over that wall. I'm having the same snapping into place issue with my Anan-G2 ham radio. Almost there... but not quite.

What specific make and model is your router?

Yeah, I thought I saw that in there. Just have to figure it out. Never used that functionality on it.
Android and iOS OpenVPN client apps are available and shown.

Be sure to mute the audio otherwise you'll bite your nails or feel like hurting someone...I know I did.

Ok, everything was going ok.. Till it wasn't. I keep trying to get Open VPN to read the certificate that the AX55 generates but it times out.

I have a Motorola MB8600 Cable Modem >> AX55 / AX3000 router >> and a Cisco SG350 managed switch. Windows firewall isn't running so I don't know what would be preventing OpenVPN from reading the certificate.

I want to purchase Blue Iris and I have like 2 days left of the trial, but I'm apprehensive to purchase it till I get it running properly.

Is it the OVPN file that you are dragging into the OpenVPN Connect program, a certificate export is not the correct file to configure the settings for the OpenVPN connect program!

Yeah, the file that the AX55 exports when you set up the VPN on the router. Then I move that to my desktop and drag it into OpenVPN. It chews on it for a minute then times out. I looked in the file and it has some info up front then long strings of security keys in it. So I'm sure it's the correct file. I have seen mention of things that might have to be edited in it, but I don't know why you'd have to if everything was functioning correctly.

I have an ASUS router and use the VPN that is built into it, I just export the OVPN configuration file and drag it onto the OpenVPN Connect program and it process it virtually instantly and pops up a screen asking for my username and password, then connects when I click on the connect button. I presume you are using a windows desktop or is it a MAC or some sort of phone or tablet. The desktop software that I use is this one OpenVPN Connect - Client Software For Windows | OpenVPN, if not then I would suggest that you give this one a try!

Yes, that's what I just said I was doing. The AX55 has a built in VPN, it actually supports several types of VPN (Open VPN being one of them). When I export the configuration file and drag it into OpenVPN it chews on it for 1 minute (because that is that the timeout duration is set for)... Then it times out.

I cant recall why I had to do this on the latest profile I tried to import into OpenVPN Connect on my windows laptop, was getting and error and it would not import.

Found this and made the two small changes to the .ovpn file and it worked. (I'm on Win11)
Open the .ovpn file in Notepad

There are two solutions to this problem:

  • Download a different OpenVPN Client. The specific application OpenVPN Connect Client supports only tun connections. There is other software from OpenVPN that does support tap connections on Windows 10. (It's the word "Connect". There is another OpenVPN Client that is just OpenVPN Client.)
On Windows 10, I use the tunXten software which supports both tap and tun. (I like the ability to switch between VPN hosts better with tunXten than with OpenVPN Connect Client. - but that's just my opinion.)
  • If you want to use OpenVPN Connect Client, change the ovpn file in two ways,
    1) change "tap" to "tun"
    2) dhange the port number from 12974 to 12973
These changes tell OpenVPN Connect Client to use tun (which works)
