Getting the hang of it

I have a long front porch that is about 75' x 10'. I currently have an IPC-HDB3200C over the door and an IPC-HFW2100 off to the side. I have recently added 5x Hikvisions to my setup and have been happy with the DS-2CD3332-I so far. All of the ones I installed were the 2.8mm and give good coverage for the areas where they are located. I also have 1x DS-2CD2732F-IS installed near a back door.

Below are pics from the porch with the 2 Dahua cams.

I am considering moving the DS-2CD2732F-IS to the front porch to zoom in on the front door. I may also consider selling it and going with DS-2CD3332-I in a 6mm version. The camera to the side of the door is about 20-25' away from the center of the steps. This may allow me to eliminate the camera over the door. Although, I would like to have some decent coverage of the front yard. If I did the 2.8mm or 4mm facing the door, I could have decent front yard coverage and the door.

I would relocate the porch cam to be about 30-35' from the center of the steps, would the 6mm work with decent coverage of the front porch, mainly at the front door? I have 3 ethernet drops for that side of the porch, first 2 are the pics above and 1 more facing the driveway. I haven't added the ceiling to the porch yet, so I can move the locations easily.

I may consider putting a DS-2CD2532F-I over the front door.

Hopefully my ramblings make sense.

I could be bias but I'd get a varifocal and remove all of the guess work. :) They are pretty cheap if you get em straight from china.

That is why I considered moving the DS-2CD2732F-IS, it is varifocal and paid for

I prefer a smaller camera to be more discreet, especially on the front porch. That is why I think the options other than the DS-2CD2732F-IS is the best way to go. The DS-2CD3332-I has been basically point, plug and play.

Something like this for a layout.. That isn't to scale . The outside line is the porch railing, the inside is the house. all but 1 camera will aim away from the house. The one is pointing at the door.

I just ordered 2 more of the DS-2CD3332-I to replace the Dahua IPC-HDB3200C domes and to allow me the option to move the DS-2CD2732F-IS to cover the front porch better.

Here is the front porch with a DS-2CD3332-I 2.8mm. I am thinking the 6mm will cover the door and the distant porch area from the same location without a problem. I am still debating moving the 2732 to the front. It is a better use for it and if I need to go to 8-12mm it can do it all for me ;-).

Looks like a VERY detailed, and wide coverage to me! :)
