My computer was bought 3 or 4 years ago. No one would buy a i7-6700 today. A i5-8500 would likely be the way to go today. However, 4 years later the I7-6700 is more than enough to handle the 10+ cams I have. And, the rating of the power supply has nothing to do with the power consumption. That rating is for the maximum theoretical load. When I get home from vacation I'll measure actual power consumption. Some people want an NVR no matter what and there's nothing wrong with that. Go for it.
38W measured.

I got my BI PC two days ago + the two WD 121PURP today (they're climaztizing now)
So far i have Win updated the W11 , and updated the fw on the 500G Kingston SSD.
And i just bought a BI license via the store here (thnx) ...

For now i expect to have 4..6 cameras.
Right now cheap Chinese - But they're supposed to be able to detect persons & movement, and you can "Paint some areas red .. Uninteresting areas"

I'm going to use one WD as cam disk for now , and i read that : Since i'll be using it purely for video, i'll format it NTFS w. a Clustersize of 1024KB ... Correct
Then allocate ~10.50GB for BI , and leave around 10% for Windows
Then disable windows indexing on the WD, and i should be ready to go ....
Is it ok to place the BI db on the WD drive , or should it go to the SSD ?

My plan would be :
To install the BI PC & Cams on the same "Cam Vlan" , and after Install/Setup of the BI machine , i would setup my pfSense Firewall to : Totally block any device on the vlan to initiate access to the internet.
I will have OpenVPN access from Mobile units , and the "Home Residence"
My pfSense would supply DNS & NTP to the BI PC & Cams.

I'm quite "rusty" with windows, as i have been using linux at home for the last 12 years.
So if you have any Win11 setup tips for me... Please don't hesitate to share.

Can my CPU do AI (Person/Plate reckognition) wo. any additional hw ?
Doesn't BI AI require "Cloud/Inet access" ?
I don't really want to install a CUDA GFX card, due to the powerusage (and space in the Optiplex SFF).

I read that i should set FPS & I-Frames to the same value
My current FPS is : 15 (Range 5..25)
My I-Frame interval is specified in seconds , and are currently set to : 2 (Range 1..30) - Do i really want 15 sec between I-Frames ??

Btw:
Should i start a new Setup thread in the NVR section , or just continue here ???

TIA
Bingo
