I know this is an IP forum but surely you guys do some co-ax work

We install mostly IP but sometimes do CVI on retrofits when we can not easily run new cable and have to reterminate some lines. Currently we use these compression style fittings that we put a boot on the wire first, strip the cable, put the BNC connector on, then use a tool to compress the the boot over the BNC Connector. I can't remember the name and a quick google doesn't pull them up.

The problem is they do not seem to make the connector in an RG6 and RG59 style, and on the RG59 cable, the connectors easily pull off. Plus the connectors come from one particular vendor and I want to make things a little simpler.

What does everyone else find to be the most secure, then easiest style of BNC? I was thinking crimp, I have a tech pushing for twist on.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I haven't made a BNC cable in a long time, but I prefer the compression style. Compression works better than crimp or twist on. Twist on has no place in professional job, too unreliable.

Not every compression tool works with every type of connector.
Here are a few options at home depot:

RG-6 http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-Universal-BNC-Compression-Connector-for-RG6-6Q-35-Pack-VDV813-613/203579044

You can also get cheap BNC to F adapters at places like monoprice. The BNC connectors at monoprice look more like the ones you're having problems with.

So I am pretty opinionated on bnc connectors coming from a broadcast background. We used a lot of Kings crimp on connectors with virtually no issues.

These are high quality but would need some form of weather-proofing for outside applications. You will need the crimp tool and learn to prep the cable. (very simple)
Maybe not applicable in your industry as too much PITA, but they work great. And we put HD-SDI through them at 1.5 to 3.0 Gb/s.
