Blue Iris Android App not showing past 1-2 days

So I am using my Samsung S21, using Blue Iris android app 3.0.35, Android version 11, One UI 3.1.
Blue Iris 4.8.4.3
Disk 21%, Ram 47%, CPU 22%

The problem is I get 1 day maybe 2 days of clips/alerts max when using the android app. Some times I only get 1 day
When I pull up my computer and look at whats actually recording to the local hard drive, Its showing the following:
The "New" Folder is showing 9/15 to 10/5 files on the local C: drive
The move to folder "Stored" on the D: external drive shows 9/5 to 9/18
Not sure what settings need changed?

Try rebuilding the database .
Are you continuous recording or just on motion ?
Do the alerts show in in the BI GUI on the BI PC ?

My Standard allocation post.

1) Do not use time (limit clip age)to determine when BI video files are moved or deleted, only use space. Using time wastes disk space.
2) If New and stored are on the same disk drive do not used stored, set the stored size to zero, set the new folder to delete, not move. All it does is waste CPU time and increase the number of disk writes. You can leave the stored folder on the drive just do not use it.
3) Never allocate over 90% of the total disk drive to BI.
4) if using continuous recording on the BI camera settings, record tab, set the combine and cut video to 1 hour or 3 GB. Really big files are difficult to transfer.
5) it is recommend to NOT store video on an SSD (the C: drive).
6) Do not run the disk defragmenter on the video storage disk drives.
7) Do not run virus scanners on BI folders
8) an alternate way to allocate space on multiple drives is to assign different cameras to different drives, so there is no file movement between new and stored.
9) Never use an External USB drive for the NEW folder. Never use a network drive for the NEW folder.
10) for performance do not put more than about 10,000 files in a folder, the search and adding files will eat CPU and disk performance. Look at using a sub folder per camera (see &CAM in bi help)


Advanced storage:
If you are using a complete disk for large video file storage (BVR) continuous recording, I recommend formatting the disk, with a windows cluster size of 1024K (1 Megabyte). This is a increase from the 4K default. This will reduce the physical number of disk write, decrease the disk fragmentation, speed up access.
Hint:
On the Blue iris status (lighting bolt graph) clip storage tab, if there is any red on the bars you have a allocation problem. If there is no Green, you have no free space, this is bad.

I have 2 laptops at the house. The one running the main BI software on an Asus and my work computer which is a Dell.
So I just went into the Windows interface (UI3) on the Dell. When I use the calendar, I can go into any day I want and see all the clips there.. For example 9/13, 9/15, 10/12, 10/15. I can see all the clips there. Its only on the phone I cant go back more than 1 day. Does this make sense? Both the Dell laptop and the phone are on the 5Ghz channel of the router.

I am only recording motion.

so the database and storage are OK, the BI and UI3 show all the alerts only the app has the problem.

You are using Very old BI and apps. There may be a mismatch in features between the versions.

I'm showing Im using the latest version of the Blue Iris app on Google Play Store. Is there a more recent one?
I did not upgrade to version 5 of BI

That is most likely the issue. You will need to update to a new version of BI solve it.
Or find an old APK of the android app, and revert back.

So I upgraded to version 5. Was holding my breath. Went smooth I think. I restored my previous settings. Everything came back up. But what are all the red lightning bolts? Does this look right?

The lightning bolts mean that camera has been triggered since the last time you cleared the triggers.

You can disable that by unchecking the counter in the alerts tab.

Study the blue iris help file. There have been many many changes/improvements since version 4. Pay close attention to the what's new portion of the help file.

I also get the same on the IOS app, can only see around 1 days worth of alerts when reviewing, didn’t used to do this as previously I could review alerts all the way back.

Logged a support ticket quite a while back so am hoping that it will be something that will be fixed soon.

I’d advise you to gather as much logical info as you can so that support can hopefully reproduce the issue and lodge a ticket.

I just bought and installed the Blue Iris App for my desktop... in order to access the camera on my android phone do I have to pay again for the android app of Blue Iris?

thanks... this is all kind of over my head ...hope I havent bitten off more than I can chew. Trying to figure out how BI will alert me then send me a link to my phone to view events? Or even like if I set up a camera on the front door...is there a way to set it up like Ring cams where you get a phone notification and they live view?

You can have this thing send you a push to the BI app if you buy the app, have it send you a text message or email or call you or integrate with most home automation systems.

Now this isn't the "plug-n-play" that a Ring system has, but most have found that those "plug-n-play" systems end up sending too many alerts and poor quality pics that most ignore or turn them off, so then what was basically a useless system then becomes completely useless LOL.

With BI, you can set it up so that it only alerts you when it is something you are interested in.

The help file has a lot of detail and at over 200 pages, is more thorough than any Ring manual LOL, but you will probably still have questions LOL. That is what a forum like this is for.

But to get you started, you basically open up a camera setting and open the Alerts tab and then set up the parameters you want to be alerted for and how to be notified.

thanks I've got the test cam online..but havent configured all the settings yet..was trying to find a setup guide for dummies ...like when you say to open a browser and access the camera by ip address I cant even figure out how to access it outside my home network...but I guess if I buy the app it might be easier

Well you do not want to be able to access it from the outside without going thru OpenVPN or some other VPN that puts you back on your home network. This isn't a paid VPN - those are for illegal video streaming and porno lol because they hide your IP. You need a VPN that does not hide your IP and puts you back on your home network.

If you are able to access it from outside your home network and you did not VPN back in, then that means you have done P2P or port forwarding or some other insecure method that opens you system up to be hacked and used for DoS attacks.

yeah well like I said I cant access it from outside... and again way over my head with vpn , P2P and port fowarding...hence my quest for dummies guide... Im older and not exactly tech savvy so the struggle is real.

Well since you cannot access it from the outside, that means you have done something right!

Now you just need to set up VPN. If you have an Asus router for example, OpenVPN is baked right into it.

Or you could use the STUNNEL option that is available in BI - it has a step-by-step wizard to walk you through it. It isn't as secure as VPN, but certainly better than port forwarding or P2P.

If you go the VPN route:

OpenVPN is simple, but we make it way more difficult than it needs to be lol.

I was there too once with OpenVPN...tried to do all this research to find directions and got to the point I said screw it and just enabled it and kinda of followed what it was asking and it worked.

You will need a DDNS as your WAN IP address is subject to change at anytime by your ISP (although most do not change often) or you are paying for a static IP address. IPCAMTALK offers a free service.


Just go to OpenVPN and enable it and see what it says - probably asks you to create a user/PW, DDNS name, encryption method, and create certificate. Then email that certificate to you (or cut/paste on to your phone) and save the certificate on your mobile device. Then install the OpenVPN app and select the certificate and then connect and you are on your home network.

It really is simpler than our minds make it out to be.
