ok, it is always a pain to add cameras to my Lorex LNR616 NVR. Once the cameras are added usually it works fine. This is currently how I set it up. The NVR is in a location that close to most of the cameras but not possible to connect a keyboard and monitor to it so I just use the Lorex cloud software installed on my PC to manage it and view the cameras. I use the webUI of the NVR sometimes too but none of them work very well in terms of adding new cameras. The NVR has an IP 10.10.70.70 on my home network. All the cameras are plugged into the NVR and got IPs from the NVR in the 10.1.1.0/24 subnet. Recently I am thinking of adding 1-2 cameras in the backyard. However, it will be really challenging to run additional cables from the new cameras to the NVR. I connected the new cameras to my home network ( 10.10.70.0/24 subnet) and tried to add the cameras to the NVR but never got it work. Now I have several options and wonder which one works the best:
option 1: keep the NVR at the current location and figure out how to add new cameras in Lorex Cloud software. Do not know what i did wrong but so far it is pretty frustrating. the NVR has 16 channels. When I added the new cameras I just assign them to port 16 and 15 as those 2 ports are not being used on my NVR. Not sure if this is the right way to do it. Please see attchment1.
opton 2: Move the NVR to a different location where I can hook up a keyboard and monitor to the NVR so I can do all the management directly. I am thinking of this just in the hope that the NVR is more responsive when adding new cameras. The drawback is all the cameras will be connected to a POE switch and I am not sure whether the NVR works fine with this set up and have the same problems I just mentioned.
Option 3: Get rid of the NVR completely. Set up a PC with SmartPSS and add cameras to SmartPSS. This may solve the issues of adding cameras. But i am a bit worried about stability. the NVR works pretty stable once the cameras are added to it. I went through 2 power outages and the NVR just went back to normal after power is restored without manual intervention. I am guessing I will have to manually power on the PC and possiby reload SmartPSS if there is outage.
Can you share your expereinces and what you recommend?
Thanks,
