I just updated my BI to the latest version and see that there are AUX options for where to send recordings. I currently have 2, 4TB hard drives and have everything stored on the primary until it's about to run out of space and then move it off to the secondary as room is needed. With the AUX, could I add more hard drives and continue doing this to preserve footage longer?

I bet both CPUs will be fine for that load. The quad core being more power efficient.

Look up each CPU on cpubenchmark.net for a rough idea of how they compare speed-wise. I think the 6 core is about 20-30% faster overall. That could be a big deal if you upgrade to higher resolution cameras later on.

Also, if you are buying new, don't buy the 4770k. Get the 4790k which is faster, and actually cheaper right now.

The 5820k is about 25 percent more powerful than the 4770, that said, the 4770 is way more than enough...have you been running this setup on blue iris already?

Thanks. I have been running the cameras on separate systems but have finally got the funding to basically build a super computer to put them all on.

LOL as far as the foscams are concerned a 4790k really will be a supercomputer. If you are running Blue Iris, don't bother going overboard on RAM. 8 GB is a great plenty; more than that and you will be hard pressed to make use of it even with a 64 bit build of Blue Iris (which doesn't even exist yet) and 36 HD cameras. Also no graphics card is necessary (just use the onboard video). Lots of storage is always nice to have, so dump any remaining funds into that or into new Hikvision or Dahua cameras.
