Any additional benefits by recording in bvr formats?

Beside the ability to view the feeds while it's being record, does it provide any other benefits? I hate the BI interface. I prefer the ability to review the recording on any players. particularly VLC or MBC with the ability to hold and drag the scenes around.

You can hold and drag scenes(scub) using the blue iris time-line. Bvr is more efficient and allows you to add timestamp info back into the video on export if you are using direct to disc. Using the time line will allow you to review multiple cameras at once which is super efficient.
