All Alerts lost when service is restarted

I've had to set up BI5 from scratch today and i think it's all working.. except i lose my alerts when the service is restarted.

I'm continuous recording from 5 cameras to a shared drive and that seems fine.. the alerts appear and work until the service restarts..

I'm sure i've missed something.. but i can't for the life of me figure out what..

Alerts exist in the clips database, and I suspect your database was recreated with rebuild.

If you have a backup of the ‘clips.dat’ file from your previous setup, you might try...
1. Closing the Blue Iris application.
2. Stopping the Blue Iris service.
3. Replacing ‘C:\BlueIris\db\clips.dat’ with your saved file.
4. Restarting Blue Iris.
5. Rebuilding the database.

I think I tried this with some success in the past.
