Advice for finding the right IPcams

Hi,
I am interested in buying OEM IP cams for my business outdoor security. I have a problem with some homeless people coming to my property at night and vandalism. I am looking at some cams comparable to these cameras from Lorex, but dont want to pay the branding price to Lorex. Please advise which camera option would work best for me.

It is simple LOL do not chase MP - do not buy a 4MP camera that is anything other than a 1/1.8" sensor. Do not buy a 2MP camera that is anything other than a 1/2.8" sensor. Do not buy a 4K (8MP) camera on anything smaller than a 1/1.2" sensor. Unfortunately, most 4k cams are on the same sensor as a 2MP and thus the 2MP will kick its butt all night long as the 4k will need 4 times the light than the 2MP... 4k will do very poor at night unless you have stadium quality lighting (well a lot of lighting LOL).

Lorex is rebranded Dahua cameras, but with cheaper internals than Dahua cameras. You are paying a premium for the Lorex name, but can get much better.

If you are going to spend the money, buy right the first time. Otherwise you will be back here with video samples questioning why you couldn't IDENTIFY the strangers.

The 49225 PTZ will blow away the one you are looking at and this one comes with autotracking, plus it is cheaper.

Here are my general distance recommendations, but switch out the Dahua 5442 series camera to the equivalent 2MP on the 1/2.8" sensor or equivalent Hikvision works as well.

• 5442 fixed lens 2.8mm - anything within 10 feet of camera OR as an overview camera (but don't expect to IDENTIFY a stranger 40 feet out)
• 5442 ZE - varifocal - distances up to 40-50 feet (personally I wouldn't go past the 30 foot range but I like things closer)
• 5442 Z4E - anything up to 80-100 feet (personally I wouldn't go past 60 feet but I like things closer)
• 5241-Z12E - anything from 80 feet to almost 200 feet (personally I wouldn't go past 150 feet because I like things closer)
• 5241-Z12E - for a license plate cam that you would angle up the street to get plates up to about 175 feet away, or up to 220 with additional IR.
• 49225 PTZ - great PTZ and in conjunction with an NVR or Blue Iris and the cameras above that you can use as spotter cams to point the PTZ to the correct location to compliment the fixed cams.

You need to get the correct camera for the area trying to be covered. A 2.8mm to IDENTIFY someone 40 feet away is the wrong camera regardless of how good the camera is. A 2.8mm camera to IDENTIFY someone within 10 feet is a good choice OR it is an overview camera to see something happened but not be able to identify who.

If you want to buy Lorex, look for their kits deals and do not buy individual cameras ( they are over priced in general )

Note - one of the cameras you posted in a Coax BNC analog cameras ( HDCVI ) the others are PoE.

Take some time to go over the cliff notes and look for Southern Yankee's welcome notes.

If you need low light image capture performance, look for the cameras which have a larger sensor ( example 4MP 1/1.8" )

After doing more research I am looking at these cameras:

IPC-T5442T-ZE- six cameras.

IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E- Two cameras- for license plate

IPC-T5241H-AS-PV 3.6 mm- Three cameras.

I am planning to use these with Blue Iris. Please advise if these cameras are good?

Question re IPC-T5442T-ZE: Do these cameras have color night vision? if not, are there any comparable cameras with color night vision? I should have enough light around the property at night. if there is sufficient light, would these cameras show color anyway?

I am planning for this computer for Blue Iris with a WD purple surveillance HD.

Sounds like solid choices!

Yes, you can force the T5542T-ZE into color at night. You would be surprised how much light is needed to have it stay auto color.

Yes the 5442T ZE will stay in color if there's a light nearby. but like Wittaj said you can turn IR switching OFF manually in the camera settings. You can change the shutter speed and the gain and quite a few other things inside the user interface.
I have the 5241E-Z12E it's a great piece of hardware. It just emailed me a couple of plates at 80% resolution. the 100% resolution .jpg will be there on the machine tomorrow on the BI PC...
