I'm thinking of adding another cheap 5MP ONVIF camera to my hodgepodge system but this time I'd like to get one with a built-in mic and audio board.

I'm not expecting good sound quality, just something good enough to indicate that there are people present in a certain restricted area.

My questions are:
  • My NVRs have a miniature audio out jack. There is no mention of routing audio out via HDMI. Does that seem normal and likely?
  • My Viewsonic 32" 2K monitor has speakers but the only way to get audio in is via HDMI or DisplayPort. So am I stuck with getting a pair of amplified cheapo PC speakers?

Audio comes through the POE cable, so as long as the NVR is capable of accepting audio, then it will come through the HDMI or DisplayPort, so it would play through your monitor.
