Active HDD monitoring

Hello,

Using dedicated machine for BlueIris.
Is it smart to use some active HDD health monitoring program (like this HDD Sentinel Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring ). The benefit of it would be acting on time when disk is on its end, but would it reduce some overall system performance or have some other negative impact?

Yes, all my disks have SMART enabled. This application I mentioned HDD Sentinel is based on SMART readings from disk, but also have active monitoring, disk speed and health testing, e-mail notifications for expamle when disk is going to fail... Many options for having nottified on time - before failure. I think this is very useful, but don't know if that has some negative impacts on performace.
