Accessing my ip cams remotely without nvr/dvr

I have 2 hikvision ANPR cams that are on my home network and i don't run an nvr or dvr in the setup and just record to SD card and have 2 local ip addresses. I'd like to view the Hikvision web interface (that i see at home on the local ip) remotely or allow another remote user to access it. I'm having trouble finding a walkthrough if anyone can point me towards one as they all seem to have nvr/dvr involved unlike my simpler set up. Any help or pointers apreciated.

thanks for the info i'll check them all out.

To look at my ip cams remotely i imagined it went:

1/ Get my local network cam ip address (192.168 ***)
2/ Add this onto whatever my current outside public ip address is (and maybe the port number) and then get port forwarding setup on my home router. Then I should be able to connect on a browser anywhere and view my cams after logging in.

I can see this sort of setup would have me chasing my ip address every time it changed and a static ip is not something i have so that setup wouldn't really work in the long run.

Hopefully I could get round the dynamic ip problem by having one of these free VPN's running then maybe?

They can, a feature called DDNS

Port forwarding, kinda like you envisioned, is possible, but terribly insecure. Its like hanging a lit sign out front saying "Come hack me"

Another thought was can I use Hik vision iVMS-4200 software to give me remote access to my cams (no nvr) or would i need an nvr to let me into my home network? . I've got both cams and this program running locally at home but have not been able to get out of the house and try it off my wi-fi yet. Im guessing a VNP is going to be sensible to use to make the home network addressable if using iVMS-4200 proabably?

Yes, A VPN

Note there are two kinds of VPNs
1- The kind you pay a fee for to hide yourself on the Interwebs so the FBI doesnt see the cat porn you're watching

2- the kind we're talking about that is free. It is a secure point to point connection from your router to your remote device. It allows you to "tunnel" into your home network as if you are sitting at your desk. OpenVPN and WireGuard are the two most easily available and are typically included with your Asus or Netgear router (not all models so check)

ok thanks, thats understood re' the VPN with the tunnelling back into my home network and the security it offers. I'll assume i shouldn't need an NVR as i dont currently use one for local access to my cams.
Can I ask would the VPN part of the setup give me a 'fixed' home network address (or name) so I can input this into the iVMS-4200ll and connect to my cams remotely? Is that how it should all work on a basic level?

If it works now it will still work with the VPN

Your IVMD-4200 is I assume installed on a computer on your network. Your router assigns it an IP address. The VPN is simply a connection to your network. You would access IVMS the same way you do now. The VPN doesn’t know or care about IVMS

ok thanks. I think i need to find some info on exactly how to use IVMS4200 outside of my home as i'm running before i can walk with it probably. It's all very well using on my home network but I need to get out and try and connect into my home network and work out how to do that step by step.

When you set up the VPN, it puts you back on your home network, so it is like you are sitting on your couch.

There will be nothing different you have to do to get IVMS running.

Log into VPN and you are good to go.

See Above

IVMS isnt going to help you see your cameras from outside your network. As I said, it doesnt CARE where you are and cant help. You have to use a method to connect to your network from outside. Again as mentioned the VPN is your best way to do that
