    SMD 3.0 dahua

Ok, I'll read through that thread. The trouble I'm having is that I'm not sure how SMD shows up in the NVR search. Is it listed as "Intelligent" etc. Because I have it setup and when I look for recordings there's nothing. And I have it set to high sensitivity. But, again, I need to read through...

    SMD 3.0 dahua

Just got this camera (IPC-HDW5442TM-AS) and I'm struggling to figure out how to use SMD. I've got it enabled under the "Event>Smart Motion Detection" page but I'm not seeing any recording on the NVR when I search for events. Does anyone have this working correctly that could help out?

    Assistance with T5442TM video settings

Like wittaj has mentioned, use WDR SPARINGLY, but I think WDR is your best bet here. What do the rest of y'all think?

    Assistance with T5442TM video settings

Yes, VERY good post :-) I actually have a Starlight zoom bullet camera (Z5E) that is doing LPR and so I'm familiar with the whole manual shutter range and gain. LIFESAVER lol. Been able to capture plates very well and OpenALPR was working fantastic until they decided to no longer be free...so...

    Assistance with T5442TM video settings

    What bitrate (fps) are y'all running at? I've run my 2 megapixel STARLIGHT's at 1080p 22fps 10240kbps

    Assistance with T5442TM video settings

Ok, last question, hopefully. Bitrate options seem to be capped at 8192 in the settings. I know the specs list 20480 as the max bitrate so I'm confused. I'd like to use something at least higher than 8192. I'm using the latest firmware from Dahua...

    Assistance with T5442TM video settings

I'm assuming "Advanced 3D" and "Advanced 2D" are in regards to noise reduction. Any thoughts on those settings?

Also, new to the T5442TM and does anyone have any experience with LDC or Defog? These are new settings to me.

    Lite H.265 series?

Agree with fenderman. You need two cameras. That's what I wound up doing after trying to cover the area with an 8mp

    Reolink - good & bad

Just make sure and check if you have gain controls. Hikvision stupidly disabled them on their last firmware update . Not sure about the Swann rebrands. (Swann rarely updates or fixes anything).

    Reolink - good & bad

Oh, on the contrary, I totally agree, that's why I'm running Dahua's now :) Those Swann/Reolink cameras are only good down to a certain lighting level, which is where Dahua picks up the torch and Hikvision, and carry on where the other companies revel in mediocrity, lol. I have Swann NHD-817's...

    Reolink - good & bad

Interesting. Obviously my RLC-411 has better optics with which to utilize the 5MP. Good to know! Thank you @sorka for sharing :-)

    Yes I agree.

    Reolink - good & bad

Yes, it's actually kind of humorous. There was news though, of a military installation being hacked (only nerds would know, lol) and several companies losing contracts to install the systems because of it. “The ban itself will not have substantial impact on the company’s business. But due to...

    Reolink - good & bad

Yeah, the newer Reolink that I have has firmware w/ an IR on/off toggle. It's the Zoom version 5MP. The jury is still out on whether or not the turrets improve the spider webs enough to warrant doing just turrets (all my mounted cameras are turrets except one). Per other good advice on this...

    Reolink - good & bad

Thank you Andy. I TRY to steer as many people as I can, your way :-) Un-fortunately, US Government passed a law recently, banning several Chinese IP Cams from government facilities and Dahua is one of them, so that has left a lot of people here leery of buying them due to previous security flaws...

    Reolink - good & bad

Yes I did, and do, and most of them say, "nah...this works good enough." Like I said, I deal with a lot of "those people", lol. $88 X 8 Cameras is, in my neck of the woods, a lot of money for someone's home or small business. You should see most of the security cameras in my town, they're...

I was not mis-leading, I was mistaken. I paid @EMPIRETECANDY $117 for my 4231EM-ASE. Please forgive me. ($125 from Amazon)

    Reolink - good & bad

For what it's worth I always recommend Dahua to anyone that asks me about which security system to buy. I just hold "that other company" in the back drawer, so to speak for "THOSE" people, lol.

    Reolink - good & bad

I wouldn't leave, this is a great place! There's a lot more we all can learn here, and I'm sorry for coming across like I was telling you how to run your forum. I will not, however, stand for saying that I am MISLEADING people. When you say that a product is garbage, you have set conditions for...

    Reolink - good & bad

What you are doing is ridiculing and name-calling because people don't share your opinion, and I just don't see how that is going to help people. We get it, you have very good reasons not to recommend Reolink. And I respect that. I'm not trying to say I know more than you. I appreciate, very...

    Reolink - good & bad

I'm sorry, but when you are not the one who's money is being spent, you have to pitch to the "TEAM" that a $140 camera is needed instead of a $60 camera....when you start multiplying it adds up, and the "team" will say "we aren't spending that much", so you have to look for other options.
  23. Burton_Flooring

    Reolink - good & bad

I agree with you, I am a novice. I don't deny that, but I have gone through SCADS of security cameras because my company doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars on surveillance. You have to find the sweet spot between price and performance. For a lot of people, they aren't willing to spend...

    Reolink - good & bad

I love Dahua, wouldn't trade them for anything else because of the night vision, but I've missed lots of recordings when IVS doesn't adhere to my "4 second pre-record" that DOES work on regular Motion detection. (That's why I use BOTH). And if you're wondering why I don't just record 24/7, I...

    Reolink - good & bad

I have used IP cameras since 2010, so yes, I'm not an old fart by any means. I'm just explaining my experience. I went through several Swann systems, flashed them to REolink , then thought going to Lorex would be better (horrible support, no firmware updates to fix numerous glitches) to Dahua...

    Reolink - good & bad

    P. S. - I beleive their updated product is a 5 Megapixel sensor (very similar if not the same to the HDW-2531R-ZS) when you look at their products, these are "night and day" better than the 4MP ones they replaced. They are now only selling the 5 Megapixel (just a way better camera). NOT...

    Reolink - good & bad

...and I'm telling you I've used the product, they update their firmware, they are onvif compliant (using one right now on my Dahua NVR), yes their cameras suck (but so do most box systems), I don't doubt that someone lied to you, and it's definitely not cool when fake reviews are posted. 100%...

    Reolink - good & bad

For the average user, you could do a lot worse, I setup a Lorex system for a friend and it's not any better really in the camera department. (8MP "color nightvision") My gripes w/ Reolink/Swann has and always will be the same as for Lorex (which I have yet to see a firmware update for )...

@EMPIRETECANDY Will this firmware also apply to the HDW2531R-ZS?

hopefully a quick "need advice" thread :)

@wopi82 I'm using mine w/ a Dahua NVR and have not had any issues w/ the time resetting. Been as stable as the other Dahua cams. But I also have the camera syncing to a time server (and it's on the correct daylight savings zone) so maybe that's what the difference is. These are my settings for...
