DAHUA IPC-HDW5231R-Z with QNAP Surveillance Station?

I was able to adjust the motion settings on the cameras to eliminate almost all of the false positives. I do random audits to see how it's performing and I'm pretty pleased. The one thing I can't seem to find a solution for is moths and such flying into the lens at night and tripping the motion...

DAHUA IPC-HDW5231R-Z with QNAP Surveillance Station?

It's been working very well. I've disabled notifications from Surveillance Station and I just rely on my Ring cameras to let me know when someone is approaching. I have tweaked the motion settings pretty well within the cameras such that I can quickly recap motion events in Surveillance Station...

Another Browser Plugin Failure Trigger - Smart Codec turned On

I decided to experiment with the "Smart Codec" setting for my IPC-HDW4231EMP-AS camera. Everything had been working great, but as soon as I enabled this feature, it caused the browser plug-in to fail. I have checked and my NAS appears to still be recording correctly and I am able to access live...

    IPC-HDW5231R-Z and QNAP TS221

So does it only work with H265? I am limited to H264 due to my NAS.

Dahua DDNS Setup problems with iDMSS App

Thanks. I'm getting there. In this case, all I needed was to be pointed down the VPN path. I do appreciate all those folks that actually gave me some constructive ideas / advice.

    IPC-HDW5231R-Z and QNAP TS221

I haven't researched the smart codec. I have it turned off on all my cameras at present. What does it do exactly?

    IPC-HDW5231R-Z and QNAP TS221

That's a good point re using IVS and motion detection. Perhaps my setup has a few advantages.

    IPC-HDW5231R-Z and QNAP TS221

I don't think you can. I noticed that you cannot mix and match local (i.e., SD card) and NAS. Not sure why that's a limitation, but it does seem to be. For now, I have my cameras setup to record local to an SD card and my NAS also records through Surveillance Station. This way I have fallback /...

    IPC-HDW5231R-Z and QNAP TS221

A couple of things: First, during setup my SS will not show a preview, even though it is setup correctly. So make sure to click all the way through and see if you actually get an image on QVR Client. Second, for cameras that aren't available in the dropdown, QNAP suggested that I choose ONVIF...

    HDW5231R-Z Camera Settings Not Sticking?

I have noticed several settings in my Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras that won't seem to stick. The ones that are most problematic are: (1) the custom motion detection zones; and (2) the Sub Stream 1 resolution settings. Regarding (1), I will set up the zones, hit save, back out and then go back...

    IPC-HDW4231EM-AS Micro SD Install Notes

Hi everyone, I recently got two PC-HDW4231EM-AS cameras from @EMPIRETECANDY (thank you!). It's probably old hat to most of the folks on here, but I found that the location of the SD slot in this camera was not very intuitive, and different than its cousin varifocal, the IPC-HDW5231R-Z. First...

iDMSS (iPhone) Issues - Square Aspect Ratios & Extra Motion Alerts

I have iDMSS setup and working, but am having a couple of issues. First, all of my camera views are in a forced square aspect ratio, but my cameras are outputting a widescreen view. This makes the pictures look very distorted, even thought the quality is otherwise fine. I have tried to go...

Dahua DDNS Setup problems with iDMSS App

So I have managed to get a VPN setup to my home network, and I'm able to connect iDMSS to my cameras remotely now (without port forwarding). The one issue I am having is whether or not I am going to have to toggle the VPN on every time I want to view the cameras or receive push notifications...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Because I'm actually looking to get a few fixed length cameras to compliment my varifocals, I may just order those through B&H for now.

Thoughts on Dahua Pro Series 8-Channel 12MP PoE NVR (DHI-NVR52A08-8P-4KS2)

I am currently using a QNAP NAS as my NVR and overall it is working well, but I am having some issues with motion alarm recording and it does not support any of the IVS features in my Dahua cameras. Because I can't stop tinkering, I have started looking at Dahua NVRs, and I will rationalize the...

Dahua DDNS Setup problems with iDMSS App

Many thanks for your response. I have a good understanding of what DDNS is doing, but I am working with a new home network setup that's a bit different (Ubiquiti) and was having issues with the firewall. Nevertheless, I have been suitably convinced that I should not do any port forwarding if I...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I had my wife walking around in the yard as I watched the meter on my laptop. I did notice that having motion lights and such kick on creates a significant detection spike. I guess if anything that will help trigger the alarm recording.

Good point on the IR. I'll do that, even though I am going to switch this camera out.

Dahua DDNS Setup problems with iDMSS App

OK, so first problem solved is that Dahua apparently has multiple DDNS sites. I mistakenly registered at the URL in the Wiki (dahuaddns.com -- which is also what iDMSS defaults to) and then noticed that the URL in the camera setup is actually quickddns.com. Now my cameras are showing up on the...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

For this location I don't think there was much need, but I had it so I used it. For other locations where it is exposed, I think the mount can be nice to get the lens out of the way of vertical rainfall (because it hangs under it).

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I could aim it up a bit and use the zoom, but I set mine up high in the eve so the camera actually can't be seen from the street. For aesthetic reasons, I wanted to hide it, but it works with what I'm trying to see anyway, which is just my driveway. Regarding whether this is the right camera...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I'm actually going to relocate this camera and get a fixed lens / wider-angle version of the same camera for this location. That's why I have left it as-is for now.

Dahua DDNS Setup problems with iDMSS App

Thanks very much for your detailed help! I've read at length, as it turns out, and I do understand what DDNS does. I have used it on other cameras before without trouble. Unfortunately, I'm finding Dahua's implementation difficult and hoping for some help. In particular, the Dahua Wiki...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I have one setup just about exactly what you are talking about - 7.5 feet up and under the eave pointed back towards my driveway. It seems that with the lights on my garage the IR doesn't need to turn on. Picture attached.

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Has anyone noticed that motion detection at night with IR on is significantly reduced as compared to during daylight? I was fiddling with motion settings tonight and I had the sensitivity turned up to 100 and the threshold down to 2 and I was still not getting indicated motion alarms in the test...

Dahua DDNS Setup problems with iDMSS App

I downloaded the iDMSS Plus application for my iPhone, but I'm having an issue getting remote access to any of the cameras using the Dahua DDNS service. I have registered for DDNS through Dahua's quickddns.com site, and I've got my cameras setup such that they show up on the quickddns site...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Ha! Today I woke up to 538 IVS emails for one of my cameras. Turns out, a spider was having a party building a web. Have since updated my rule to require min size target!
