    Tree sap on sensor

A 50/50 mix of distilled water and 99% isopropyl plus 5 drops of Dawn in 750 ml spray bottle is my go to cleaning solution for large lenses that cannot be removed and washed. Mix uses 99% isopropyl because the rubbing variant can contain additives that leave a residue. Use Dawn original formula...

    OMG Thermal!

Doe and Fawn. Tree line is 350 to 370 feet away. Love how they show up so well on thermal while largely hidden by the trees.

    OMG Thermal!

Time lapse at dusk comparing visual and thermal pickup of the camera as light dwindles. The visual light sensitivity is not that great.

Neat that the antlers are warm on thermal. I didn't expect that.

    Bucking the Storm

An intrepid buck decided that tonight's thunderstorm was a good time to explore the neighborhood. Turn on your audio for this one. This video just didn't feel right without a soundtrack. So, I made one to match. Four layers of audio effects later, it is more fun to watch. I'm a bit early with...

    Can`t activate camera

Sorry to say, but unless you know the previously set user password, you WILL need to get up there, open the camera, and hold down its reset button. Just like learning the need to back up all computers.... This is a lesson headed only after learning once the hard way: Always set up, initialize...

Nice scope! Now I'm reminded I need to find a place to mount the Dahua thermal from eBay

    Morning Aurora (August 4, 2024)

It is a Loryta Color-4KT 3.6 mm lens. For the aurora capture time lapses, I set it to a manual, exposure mode. Gain 0 to 50. Manual shutter range 0 to 300 msec with a frame rate of 3 fps. Frame rate is set low to match long shutter because the camera will output lower and lower frame rates to...

    Morning Aurora (August 4, 2024)

erkme73, it is amazing it was visible that far south. Some of the articles I read about the May 10-11 event put it in the once every 500 years range, base on historical accounts of auroras being seen that far south. We got to see and capture a historic moment.

IPC Cam power while in NVR but not in PoE Switch

IPC Cam power while in NVR but not in PoE Switch

I think only some of those ports on the switch are POE+, while the other are just POE Porta 1-2 ≤90 W <--------- I would plug the PTZ into these POE+ ports Porta 3-8 ≤30 W <--------- don't plug the PTZ into these POE ports

Printing up Another Pole Top Cap Camera Mount

Installed on pole and one Color 4KT attached. No camera will be on other side of mount. So the opposing side is capped off with a sheet metal plate.

Printing up Another Pole Top Cap Camera Mount

It's a Prusa MK3S (older model) running my own extruder head and customized firmware for smoother surface finish. They've moved on to new model since then. For PETG printing, you also need at least a food dehydrator to dry the filament spools prior to use. Even on factory sealed spools...

Printing up Another Pole Top Cap Camera Mount

Needed another camera mount to go atop a 3 inch diameter camera post to accommodate another sky camera. I print these to mount two turret cameras on top of camera poles. Love being able to make these, but it's over a 24 hour long print. Black PETG has been holding up well on my existing ones...

Review- EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 4mp Varifocal Turret

For a better idea of where to look for this defect, here are two full frames. First is when the camera is exhibiting the defect. Notice the light band at the right edge of frame. It's not too bad at this level of lighting, but as night gets darker, it becomes more and more noticeable. Next...

Review- EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 4mp Varifocal Turret

I suggest one additional test of the camera when these arrive. I have a unit that produces a distinct band of brightness near its right frame edge when put into B&W mode. It doesn't always do it, but about 1 out of 4 times I flip it from color to B/W mode, the light band appears in the frame. I...

    Odd looking planes

Here is one for you. Two planes, but with forward and rearward light beams. I could not figure it out, but one of the veterans thought it might be a mid-air refuel. What do you guys think? The video is at 20X speed.

    Morning Aurora (August 4, 2024)

Initially only visible through holes in the clouds, but wait until the clouds clear. The display would have been even more amazing were it not obscured by our Pacific Northwest Clouds.

HDW3849H-AS-PV vs T5442TM-AS for longer distance

Multiple cameras with PTZ's among them give a lot of flexibility and coverage. Some places I use pairs of fixed position cameras. These poles mix in some PTZ's to do the job.

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

Seems the distances are doable without POE extenders. I have 13 of my cameras mounted away from the house. Doing so opens up a lot more coverage possibilities than limiting to just on the house. My absolute best sky cam position for dim sky objects is on a pole behind the house. Your 4KT's...

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

My entrance to house for the ethernet lines is next to my mains panel. I bond the arrestors to the house ground. They won't save your cameras from destruction, but can limit how much other equipment gets affected. I don't think you need that tall of a post. My camera posts are about 7 feet above...

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

I'd be tempted to put a camera post here. Trenching in a couple direct burial ethernet cables there would get you near 360 degree views. I've run the direct burial stuff both wire itself and within underground conduit. Once the wire is in place, it is a joy to have the remote mounting...

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

It's a 3.6 mm lens (88 degrees horizontal). The leftmost portion of frame is north northwest. The tall tree is due east. I also use a 2.8 mm, but visually the 3.6 is sharper and I prefer the lesser geometry distortion.

EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-X is an amazing weather cam

You're going to have fun with it. It captures sky events that you can't even see with your eyes. Tonight's aurora activity (from near Seattle) was not visible to my eyes, but the Color 4KT got this Ignoring earth curvature, I estimate 460 miles to the aurora last night.
