outdoor IP camera to monitor the car from the 8th floor

Correct. Or go with a telephoto lens. The biggest focal length is 50mm I've seen on a M12/S-Mount lens http://www.lensation.de/product/B3M50025/ Correction, looks like 90mm, which may be too much...

FOV or angle of view on the DS-2CD2342WD-I

Well, no answers for sure. China can't violate the laws of science. Focal length is focal length. Meaning, it cannot lie. Now if they stuff the camera with something other than 2.8mm lens, then you can't trust it. Unfortunately, the photo is not doing us any favors. It's not perpendicular to...

    Hikvision 2CD2432 PIR Alarm

Here, I tied the PIR to the alarm, then used a RELAY out form the alarm to trigger record. I don't trust the image analysis, PIRs work way better. I did play with it once. I tried to meter and scope it out, but it is not a voltage output. It is likely a sink to ground. If I was going to test...

Anyone messed with Thermal cameras ??

Unless you have big money, forget about Z in PTZ for thermal cameras. They are usually only fixed focal length, due to the nature of the optics, which is pure germanium. The lens is really interesting, they are thick, heavy, and do not pass any visible light.

SMTSEC 5MP Low LIght 1/2" Sony IMX178 Dome

I run XProtect on i5 NUC, 11 X 3MP cameras, looking to add the 12th soon. All doing 1920x1080, except 1 at 3MP. Based on menu options, it appears to do multiple alarms for motion, although I haven't set that up.

FOV or angle of view on the DS-2CD2342WD-I

For a 2.8mm focal length lens to achieve 109° diagonal FOV, the sensor size must be 7.85mm diagonal (6.84mm wide x 3.85mm tall). This is 1/2.3" sized sensor. I thought the HIK 4MP were Omnivision OV4689 1/3" sensors.

https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/2759-Hikvision-focal-length-angle-of-view-and-other-lies?highlight=FOV+lies I measured and calculated the angles and focal lengths. Found my 2.8mm focal length lenses to be closer to 3.2mm. Yeah, wtf? My math and process is good here. And forget...

How to prevent water from getting inside my wall behind the camera mounting bracket?

Re: How to prevent water from getting inside my wall behind the camera mounting brack Yeah, I have a plate that mounts a pair of cameras in 1 hole so I wanted enough room for a pair of connections and I didn't want to buy more than 1 stucco drill. I actually used a 35mm bit. My sleeve is...

How to prevent water from getting inside my wall behind the camera mounting bracket?

Re: How to prevent water from getting inside my wall behind the camera mounting brack I had to drill a 1.25" hole in my stucco to be able to shove the hik connections into, drilling up at a slight angle. Then I sleeved the hole with thin wall aluminum tubing, sealed with silicone. Then I shoved...

Latest available firmware for DS-2CD2332-I china-english version.

I'm happy with v5.2.0. Bought them same place & time as you did, ish. I assume they are very insecure, so I keep them off the internet: https://diysecurityguy.wordpress.com/2015/07/28/tip-isolate-your-hikvision-ip-cameras-from-the-internet-using-parental-controls-in-router/

Why isn't there a standard bullet camera in 2.8mm lense?

To get wide angle, you need a larger front flat glass, which increases the body diameter of the bullet. In my measurements, Hikvisions 2.8mm lenses are really more like 3.2 - 3.25mm, so even the domes don't give you the wide angle they advertise. Nor are the actual angles correct...

    12V power through Cat5e?

Not so fast. You need to deliver 38 watts at 12V plus or minus 10%, which gives you a range of 10.8V to 13.2V. Worst case is you need to deliver 3.5 Amps (38W/10.8V) at the lowest voltage. So using the bulk cable calculator, put in 3.5 A and 13.2V. 14AWG will droop to 11.4V at 200 ft...

    25mm Lens for ds-2cd2032-i Mini-Bullet

I remember just letting it float in the housing. I was able to close it up fine, bit of pressure acting on the lens, but it's been working since. Ideally the right standoffs and screws can be sourced, and possibly a spacer for the housing could be 3D printed, but lots of work there. In in...

Sensor size and why dont they use bigger ones.

I think 1/2" will be as big as they go. S Mount/M12 lenses seem to max out at 1/2". Going to 2/3" and larger will be a c-mount lens. It has to do with image circle coming out the back of the lens being able to cover the entire sensor. It's all about economics of scale. The small sensors they...

Sensor size and why dont they use bigger ones.

Pixel size has nothing to do with processing power, pixel count does. Bigger pixels can be exposed to more photons, thus can be better in low light. Bigger sensors need bigger lenses and will have shorter depth of field. For security, you want long depth of field so everything is in focus...

    FIber optic power level question

You don't need an OTDR. Nice to have, but not needed. Get yourself a optical fiber meter that works at least with 1310 nm. Disconnect the fiber from the TX and measure the launch strength at the device's TX output in db. Then reconnect fiber at the TX end only and go to the far end of the...

    Replacement for 2332 ?

DS-2CD3332 is USA version, the ones I received have UL stickers on them, came with red & white box, English. Otherwise, same as my DS-2CD2232 (brown box, chinese, no UL sticker). Mechanics & electronics for both are identical. I run 5.2.0 on all my cameras and have no desire to upgrade or...

Powering camera by POE and 12v?

Not having access to the schematic, I would guess the poe power supply regulates to 12vdc. It likely meets the 12V pigtail input at this point. If designed right, they should be protected with diodes so one can't backfeed the other. Backfeeding the poe supply shouldn't be a problem. Most...

    Emailing photo's.... Better configuration options?

I would guess most people don't use this feature in the camera. It sounds like the first photo is an interval before the detection occurs, #2 is at detection, #3 is after motion detection is stopped? What firmware version are you using? It is not advised to do this in the camera as you have to...

    Amazon/hikvision

I have ordered a few from Aliexpress and a few more recently from Amazon. I was looking for International region cameras, and was able to find them. If you look for the DS-2CD3332-I you might find them. I was able to carefully find these shipped from US for about $135 a few months back. They...

Adding alarm I/O to Hikvisions without connector

Ok, I've settled on Milestone + NUC as my DVR due to low power and the ability to use in-camera motion detection to trigger records. This works great.
