Is there a such thing as a camera system that is not complete trash? Suggestions?

Yes, have been using BlueIris for years (still learning more about it every week). Current setup is using ProjectAI and a huge BI Fan. Turns on my Philips hue lights when it detects a person on certain cameras Emails Video's when a person\vehicle is detected (when it detects I am not at home)...

Is there a such thing as a camera system that is not complete trash? Suggestions?

Probably not the smartest thing to say in this forum, but based on your wording, suggest finding a local camera guy and holding them accountable. BlueIris (while great, is only for people that like to tinker and put int the effort), it's no where near plug-and play compared to say a Hikvision...

BI - 2am Daily Database Compact \ Repair (stops recording)

My DB is just under 25GB with relatively modest retention, but have had a ton of activity alerts last month.. A manual compact\repair takes around 22seconds, yes using an Intel Enterprise SSD for both the Database and Alert Images. The 5minout outage is manageable, just wasn't expected. But...

BI - 2am Daily Database Compact \ Repair (stops recording)

Excellent suggestions. I don't need a backup (have SD cards in the cameras, and like the suggestion of doing it manually. I can see the help has come a long way, really should take the time to read it through again, as looks like so much work has gone into updating the documentation. I only...

BI - 2am Daily Database Compact \ Repair (stops recording)

Hi long-time user of BI and never noticed this before, but I noticed today that BI drops recording during the 2am daily DB maintenance. I am going to raise with support, but wondering if this is normal\expected? I use constant recording, so expected constant recording. As a workaround now...

    Newbie VPN question

I don't think there is a correct answer for this, it depends on someones risk appetite. The risks with TCP port-forwarding are often overstated. Always assume any device on your network is compromised, each device needs to be secure. If you forward a TCP port for BlueIris the key risks are...

Your sub-stream configuration is fine. Nothing to worry about, there will be some minor image size differences in the alerts, that is to be expected as they are re-sized.

Essential to ensure your sub-stream is of sufficient quality to identify objects (both resolution and bit-rate).

I tried 5.6.0 and 5.6.0.1 and the GUI lost all triggers and confirmations and kept "not responding". Mobile App was fine, so I emailed support and rolled back to 5.5.9.6, are you not having issues?

    5.6.0 - August 16, 2022

Similar I had all FLAGS disappear for numerous cameras via the GUI. The footage and FLAGS were still there as I could see them in the iOS Mobile Application. Was very easy to roll-back, I tried 5.6.0.1 also has the issue, in addition the GUI is non-responsive, so rolled-back will advise support.

I experienced similar using custom models, it was not detecting people. For me going back to using General Models, got things working again. Actually given the current performance using general models, it's going to take a lot to get me back to custom models. In the past with my large amount of...

Wheel of Names is often a fun way, you can put hundreds of names in. Suggest the "public" name from IPCamTalk. It doesn't record the spin, but you can screen grap the results, or use a 3rd party tool like Windows 10 Game Bar to record. Wheel of Names | Random name picker Wheel of Names Could...

Triggered recordings are only using sub stream lower quality

Yes, confirming under LiveView, did you select the '4k 2160p VBR' streaming profile? It also impacts playback. SideNote: I personally use stream 3 not 2 for my sub-streams, as generally it supports 1080p. Better quality for alerts, without wasting resources like 4k would.

Triggered recordings are only using sub stream lower quality

Hi, have you checked that BI is not configured to playback "substream when available" ie: Play a clip, then right-click and ensure "use sub stream when available" is NOT selected. When this is selected, BI only plays back the "sub-stream" Good news is you have both streams saved. (sorry i just...

    Starlight vs Night Color

I have never tried a PTZ but interesting concept. Think they would be too slow to respond IRL and create blur. Camera's and motion, never make good bedfellows, but interested in how you get on. Personally go for ColourX (overview\coverage) as you outlined with overlapping IR cams with narrower...

    Review-OEM Loryta IPC-T5442T-ZE Varifocal 4mp camera (Dahua)

Wow, thanks the IPC-T2231T-ZS is certainly much cheaper ($180 vs $270 AUD). I already have a T5442T-ZE, have to use manual profiles to avoid the camera going into color mode at night. In auto day\night there is no feature to disable color mode. Wonder if IPC-T2231T-ZS has the same issue. I...

    IPC-HDW5442T-ZE artifacts

I concur with most of what is said here, especially moving to H.264H and CBR, with the exception of 1:1 frame to iframe. PC-HDW5442T-ZE are definitely over sharpened out of the box. From some reason when I have a 1:1, I get some artifacting as pictured. (PS: Whenever changing camera settings, I...

Appreciate thoughts to provide overlap coverage with a ColorVu G2 4k (very happy with), just looking to zoom in on a dark area with IR and get some more detail at Night. Pricing has gone up a bit now, is this cam recommended?

I remember when H.265+ was Da Big Thang. Now, most do not recommend it's use. What should the standard be?

You nailed it, lower latency (closer to real-time) for viewing live footage, yes looks to be working for H.264H This "direct to wire" option appears available anywhere the encoding menu is offered, eg: email alert videos. I use the "high" profile as traditionally that has provided excellent...

I remember when H.265+ was Da Big Thang. Now, most do not recommend it's use. What should the standard be?

Handy for those who view their cams in Real-Time and use BlueIris. Blue Iris now has support for "Direct to Wire", but limited to H.264, so relevant to this discussion. This feature needs to be enabled in the encoder options in the web server settings, but bloody hell it removes a lot of...

Sorry but I don't think you get how Docker works. There is nothing to script, as Vettester pointed out the first two steps were not required, so it's literally a single command line, stating the options you require. That single command downloads and installs and runs the container. Can you...

I was clearly referring to a docker install so that path does not exist. Your post made me dive deeper, and I was able to locate the assets in the docker image. So yes no need to download these unless BI needs these. Earlier poster said BI needs these...

Hi to clarify there is no need to modify any config file, people chose to because they prefer that approach for Docker. I however don't use that approach, doesn't mean I am wrong\correct or better just different. Deepstack is very much beta, so that's not an argument. If it helps, this is how...

I remember when H.265+ was Da Big Thang. Now, most do not recommend it's use. What should the standard be?

As always details are important. With 4k cameras I do find H265 uses almost half the bitrate of H264, so for me the savings are real. If you are using a proprietary NVR and cameras of the same brand, generally H265+ is absolutely perfect, but don't use any+ with BI. On a PC, on rare occasions...

Do you want reliability or efficiency? While some great feedback, and I concur that Deepstack is more efficient on a per image basis, I found that there is no way I can risk going back to DeepStack and with minor tuning overall resource usage is the same. Deepstack is very much Beta and there...

For those that prefer docker, installation is a single command from powershell. I prefer docker, as SenseAI requires a ton of dated dependencies, and for stability like to keep Windows as clean as possible. So from a powershell prompt, run; docker run -d -p 5000:5000 --name 'SenseAI-Server'...

IPC-T5442T-ZE Cloaking Device video artifacts H.264 general codec --What could cause this?

Given you are already using H.264 and CBR with no smart codec, the most likely cause is insufficient I\O. You need to look at performance logs to determine if it's Network\Storage related. Most common cause of insufficient I\O will be insufficient performance of the HDD, less likely but...

    Powerline Adapters with PoE?

Powerline can be hit and miss, both outlets need to be on the same circuit or performance can be worse than WiFi. And definitely if you have 3 phase, need to be on the same phase. Ideally loan some units to test, as results vary greatly!! PoE is just one way of getting power to the camera...
