    Full format of 15TB USB drive . . . 1% after 24 hours?!?

Thanks, all! Yeah, I just killed the drive formatting. The SMART report is "OK". I think I'm going to rethink my hardware a bit... that's the problem with new territory, learning hiccups along the way! Andrew

    Full format of 15TB USB drive . . . 1% after 24 hours?!?

So... I bought this used 15TB external USB Western Digital drive. I figure, hey, I'll just do a full format of the drive to find any bad sectors and life will be better for it. One less thing to go wrong later. right? I connected it to the USB 3.0 port and I'm thinking, this can't take too...

Maintaining accurate camera times on an isolated subnet?

In case anyone stumbles on this thread, I found this thread which covers the topic in good detail: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/setting-up-nettime-time-sync-tool-on-windows-10.41660/ Andrew

Maintaining accurate camera times on an isolated subnet?

Oh, that's right, the NIC has a 192.168.x.x address. That makes sense. Thanks! Andrew

Maintaining accurate camera times on an isolated subnet?

Thanks, Mike. The BI Box (NTP server) has the NIC in it that hosts the camera subnet, but box (172.) and subnet (192.) have different IP prefixes. Think that'll still work? Oooo, good advice. I'll have to check on that. Thanks! Andrew

Maintaining accurate camera times on an isolated subnet?

Thanks, guys, super helpful! I found this from a post here too: https://sites.google.com/view/randys-camera-wiki/nvr/time-sync So, Flintstone61, in your screenshot, the last change to make would be to change the Amcrest checked "Sync with NTP Server" from "0.nettime.pool.ntp.org" to the static...

Maintaining accurate camera times on an isolated subnet?

I have my cameras on their own private subnet and the gateway is inactive. Clocks on devices eventually wander. What do most folks do to keep their cameras "on time" when they can't "call out" and automatically sync time with a time server? Do you just manually reset the camera times on a...

SSD -> internal HD -> USB external HD?

Thanks, samplenhold, that's super helpful! Andrew

SSD -> internal HD -> USB external HD?

Thanks so much. DB only, got it. I did a search here but couldn't find the USB drive discussion, do you recall the title or keyword to search by? (And yes, it's USB 3.0/3.1.) Maybe I'll dump the external USB drive in favor of another internal drive. Splitting the cameras sounds like a...

SSD -> internal HD -> USB external HD?

Hey peeps! So, I’ve got am SSD as my main drive, then BI is set to move files to an internal WD Purple drive. When that’s full, files are moved to an external HD connected by USB. Should i be worried about the slowness of the USB connection? Should I tweak any settings? Will the USB connection...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

Thanks, been doing that, but a good reminder to not get lazy! I didn't remember the rest and was lazy and didn't look it up. Yes, it's 172.16.0.x. Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out why the Dahua Utility isn't finding my cameras powered and connected and set to 192.168.1.x when I scan...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

Yes, I agree, my LAN is already set to 172.x.x.x. I did that yesterday. Only camera NIC is set to 192.168.1.1. Well, I think I‘m scanning correctly, but maybe not. In the Dahua utility, I have it scanning from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.4.255. That should find all the cameras inbetween those two...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

I think this is the key! I added three additional ranges to the camera NIC, including 192.168.4.1 and when I ran the Dahua Utility, the second camera popped up as 192.168.4.136! THANK YOU!!! ... time passes ... I reset the camera from 192.168.4.136 to 192.168.4.122. Fine. BI sees it and it's...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

Uh, question. I have my camera NIC set to 192.168.2.100. One camera is set to 192.168.2.120. I have it connected to BI and seems to be working fine. (Yay! Thanks!) I connected a second used Q-See camera (it was working fine during earlier testing) but Dahua utility—while it easily found the...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

I greatly disliked C++. It felt like jumping through hoops. I much preferred C. Assembly was interesting, if tedious. Andrew

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

Thanks, and that diagram pretty much matches what I'm doing here. I'm sure I'm going to run into some other hurdle, but I'm excited to work on this more! Andrew

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

What year for degree? 1989. I was coding mostly using Unix and one class writing assembly for a DOS box. The Unix stuff still comes in handy. I taught my son basic commands on a road trip to college a few years ago while he was in the Unix shell of his MacBook . . . cd, rm, cat, vi, pwd, chmod...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

Thanks to everyone, you are all extremely helpful! :) Thanks, worked like a champ! This allows devices to be findable on the network and can be a security risk, right? If you don't mind my impertinence, would you mind taking a sec and explaining why we'd want to do this? Aside form that and...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

OMG, what a PIA. Microsoft has made using IE nearly impossible. I managed to get an IE icon pinned to my taskbar, but when I click it, it launches MS Edge instead. Microsoft: Windows update to permanently disable Internet Explorer Microsoft has apparently now disabled most (all?) un-cumbersome...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

Thanks, good to know. Is there a place to look up the default ip addresses for a given brand/model? On a network scan, about half come up as Dahua but at least four are Tiandy brand... Wait. I asked Google. Tiandy is 192.168.1.2. Seems I can just do an online search for each brand. Duh. Just...

Setting cameras to static on subnet?

I'm a relative newbie, but learning fast. I'm setting up BI with POE cameras. (I'm replacing an old Q-See POE DVR.) I have a PC with two NICs in the case. I want to have the cameras on their own subnet. My question is: what steps do I follow to set the cameras to static IPs? Do I configure...
