My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

I have had a change in thinking. I think now that I may move to Blue Iris. I am currently starting this process. I have ordered an 8-port PoE switch to replace the NVR. I have a fairly new Dell OptiPlex 3060 that has an i5-8500 6-core processor. I'll upgrade the boot disk to an M.2 256GB SSD...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

Well named, Sir. Well named indeed. It is pretty cheap too. Within my specified price range. Thanks. I am sticking with my DIY solution for now. It is built. I had the cameras anyway. At some point, I feel that Dahua/Amcrest is likely to market a 180 degree camera and I'll buy that if...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

@wittaj, Your thinking is exactly mine. It is obvious that a company telling me that yes, this camera works with my NVR and then I come back to them complaining that, for example, the floodlight function does not work. I could then say that they lied when they said, "it worked." I get that...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

All good cameras and I thank you for sharing your knowledge of them with me. I have been out of the hunt for cameras for some years as I am just completing an upgrade from some venerable baseband (coax) equipment at my house. I am certainly interested in these new cameras. I followed up on...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

I already had the two Amcrest cameras and I have an Amcrest NVR so I used what I had to make it work. I was not aware of the Annke FCD600 and it looks like a really nice camera. It is a little more expensive on Amazon but, if I can verify that it will work with my NVR then I'll probably buy...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

@wittaj, Agree with both and that is exactly how I have done it. Here's a pic of the current (well nearly) camera network topology. This install covers two houses.

Hmm. Sorry that was all in bold. This was unintentional.

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

@groceryboyjr, My plan is to use these two cameras, each on their own ethernet cable connected to a PoE switch mounted in the attic and then to my Amcrest NV4116E-A2 NVR. I cannot say if the device you show will or will not work. Sorry. I only ever say if I know something will work if I have...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

@fenderman, The bar just seemed to help getting the axes aligned. The idea was to not have to mess with lots of alignment up a ladder at gutter level. No reason to use it if you don't feel it is necessary @TonyR, My plan is to fix the back plate directly to the wall. So the piece of plywood...

My DIY Alternative to Reolink's 180 Degree Camera

After the debacle of the Reolink Duo 2 camera not working on my Amcrest NVR I removed it and, started thinking. Here's the result of that think... I know that there are parallax errors here and I know that I need two NVR channels. This is just a first try at making this work. I have...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 Reboot Loses Cameras and Camera Config.

I just did a reboot from the web console and it came back up exactly as it should. Also I have found the Backup option. It is called Export. I now have a backup file on my NAS where it is safe.

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 Reboot Loses Cameras and Camera Config.

I tried both methods. I tried on a browser to reboot first. Here I used the IE compatible mode in MS EDGE to access the NVR web interface and I also tried again using the NVR console. The result were the same both times. There seems not to be a Save configuration option within the NVR. AT...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 Reboot Loses Cameras and Camera Config.

I'm using 12 cameras here. 6 are on the built in PoE ports whilst the others are on my LAN. The NVR does not seem to care. It loses everything. I do not think that this is a battery problem but, I will check it next time I pull it out of the closet where it lives. I told the NVR not to...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 Reboot Loses Cameras and Camera Config.

Hehe. Not likely now I have installed all these Amcrest cameras. I KNOW that Reolink won't support them at all.

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 Reboot Loses Cameras and Camera Config.

So now my NVR seems to be working now that I have removed the Reolnk Camera. I rebooted the NVR and it lost my camera and most of their passwords. This obviously also affected the ASP app as well. It did the same thing when I power cycled it. This last was very surprising. I would expect...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

You are quite correct. Reolink make turnkey systems and components for consumers. They state quite clearly on their website that they do not support third party cameras on their NVRs. Why is this when we already have some excellent standards? The omnipresent cloud is the main reason. It is...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

So now I know. At least as far as Amcrest goes. The Reolink Duo 2 is working perfectly on my son's BI system. Whilst it was the Duo 2 that did not work for me, it was the Amcrest NVR that did not correctly support it. That said, I shall not be buying any more Reolink products in future.

Here is what my installation is supposed to look like on the rara occasions it has all worked today.

The Typical picture of a Perp on Nextdoor-type Apps with Consumer Grade Cameras like Ring, Nest, Arlo, Canary, Wyze, etc.

These pics were taken 10 years ago on analog cameras. The car door was left open and these gentlemen paid a visit. One of them found a set of keys inside that car and you can see him trying the front door. Happily the key did not fit. These cams were about as good as could be had back then...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

I had a 90 minute support phone call with an Amcrest tech this AM. He was super helpful and together we tried to make the Reolink camera work on my Amcrest NVR. IT DOES NOT WORK. The Reolink Duo 2 is going back to Amazon for a refund and I'll put a wide angle Amcrest camera in it's place...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

Yes indeed. Lesson learned here. I was fooled by the ease at which Blue Iris worked first time with this camera. I may have sorta fixed it. I have a small i3 linux headless box that I have used the browser (on a screen) to connect to the Reolink's web page. I then took the screen off it and...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

Interesting, however unsurprising... Thank you. New update. I disabled the UID on the Reolink and reset the http port back to 8000 from 80. I deleted it from the NVR and then did a search and re-installed it. Suddenly it has decided to work. Of course this may have been scared that I...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

The ONVIF standard has endured for some time. Today in order to lock consumers in to monthly cloud payments manufacturers have "Improved" existing standards and norms and this is what seems to have happened between Amcrest and Reolink. Since I have no use for my cameras in anyone's cloud, they...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

Thank you for your reply. I have indeed checked to Reolink and their position is that they do not support Reolink cameras on third party NVRs and nor do the support third party cameras on their NVRs. This did not please me as I discovered this after I had purchased. I should have done better...

Amcrest NV4116E-A2 keeps losing Reolink Duo 2 stream

I have 12cameras connected to the NVR. Six are connected to the NVR's PoE ports and these are all Amcrest cameras. The other six cameras are connected via my LAN. All these have static Ip addresses handed to them from my Ubiquiti ERX, as does the NVR. Two of these six cameras are wireless...
