And now I can add a ton more cameras and bury that CPU again :-)

Absolutely and time, and I would've still had the same core problem, so thanks for stopping the presses

    i7-12700 vs i7-12700F vs 12700K

That did the trick, had to fiddle a bit to get BI to look at 3rd stream because just upgraded from old version, (had to re-inspect) but CPU now at ~10% :) Thanks so much for everybody's help, really appreciate it!

    i7-12700 vs i7-12700F vs 12700K

So this is interesting, if I slow the bit rate within the camera down on the sub stream, it doesent change the numbers within BI. If I slow the BR down on the main stream within the camera, it slows both streams down in BI?? Why?

    i7-12700 vs i7-12700F vs 12700K

OK, can I set each camera to default for HW decodeing in BI Video tab then set the camera tab to NO under HW accelaration or do I need to set each camera? I will mess with the substream bit rate in each camera and report

That's good news, I'm not really crazy about shelling out 500 bucks for a new CPU and MB. Here are a couple of screenshots. Thanks!

    i7-12700 vs i7-12700F vs 12700K

Currently I have i7-8700 with 14 cameras about half 4K and about half 8K, using sub streams which are set for 1280 x 720 res, (Which I realize is somewhat high but I like the image quality, 640x480 looks pretty bad) all streams set for 15 FPS, going direct to disc. I have the camera viewing...

    i7-12700 vs i7-12700F vs 12700K

Building a new dedicated BI box and trying to figure out the difference and if one is better for decoding than the other? not going to be overclocking Also thinking B660 chipset on Gigabyte MB. Anybody have any feelings on this approach? thanks in advance

Web Server not working after update

So I have version 5 installed and the web server was working fine. Then I updated to the latest version (old version was about 1.5 years old) now it's not working. I confirm that the V5 BI app is allowed to run through the firewall. (I also have version 4 installed on this box, not sure if that...

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

I think I answered my own question, if I change the camera description from generic ONVIF to HIKVision, then this stream settings within the camera are reflected within BI

Here's my settings profile_3 is the third stream.

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

Back on this, one thing I notice is that within BI looking at the camera connection status that the frame and bit rate of the main and the sub streams seems to be the same even though I have set them differently within the camera. In other words if I increase or decrease the mainstream's frame...

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

Using the third stream for viewing seems to hit the sweet spot :-) where do I tell BI to record the mainstream? Under the camera record tab all I see is a check box for use default, is this it? and If so do I need to select default under stream profiles/main?

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

Smart codec is off. Looks like on 4 megapixel camera I could only go 6 FPS on third stream, whereas on 8 megapixel camera I had the full range of options. I have latest firmware updated on all cameras

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

You'll have to forgive me, I'm not sure where I check to see if I have a smart codec? And when you say exposure, what do you mean by that? Are these settings within the camera or BI?I

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

Interestingly though the third stream is limited to 6 FPS

Hikvision/Dahua Third Stream with Blue Iris Substream option

Thanks fenderman, looks like the third stream (which was an available option once I did find inspect) visually looks like it will strike the right balance. Now to just go and change all the cameras and burn a few more hours on this :-) and see what my CPU looks like then. So if I'm recording...

Is there a way to use the main stream when viewing all cameras?

Sorry, forgot to mention I did up the bit rate on the sub stream to 2048, (I have the mainstream set at 6144) I'm spreading these 14 cameras across 2 30 inch monitors so each camera window is pretty decent size. So is HIK considered to be one of the best choices or is there another favorite out...

Is there a way to use the main stream when viewing all cameras?

Thanks guys, these are HIKvision cameras and I only see two streams, but that would have been nice.. The max res on the sub stream is 640 x 320 I have about 14 cameras, half of them are 8 megapixel and the other half are 4 megapixel. I'm running an Intel i7-10500 CPU and without sub streams it...

Is there a way to use the main stream when viewing all cameras?

I just updated to the latest BI and it quite different with all the frames and groups etc. I'm also now using sub streams to give my CPU a much-needed break which it has. But now when viewing all cameras it looks like I'm using the sub stream instead of the mainstream and the quality is pretty...
